Twins win

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 11, 2008 10:58 PM

Joe Nathan just recorded his 12th consecutive save, though it was of the white knuckle variety, and the Twins beat the Red Sox, 9-8, at the Metrodome.

The Sox scored two in the ninth and had pinch hitter Manny Ramirez up with Coco Crisp at second after a stolen base. But Ramirez grounded to short to end it.

  1. Terry F was at his managerial worst in this game and when Tim Wakefield gave up his first 2 runs TF should have seen he was not on his game. Instead, he was allowed to give up 7 runs in one inning. Do you call this (mis)management?

  1. Jack, while I tend to agree Francona mismanaged, Wakefield gave up 7 runs in two innings, not one. Another puzzling fact is that the supposedly rubber-arm long reliever worked (1.1 innings) less than two other relievers. If you already pretty much give up the game, why not suck up and let your long guy work another inning?
