Wakefield sharp
SEATTLE - After allowing 8 earned runs in 5 innings in his last start in Oakland last week, Tim Wakefield appears to be on his game. He struck out the side in the second inning and has four over two innings.
Wakefield is winless in his last 17 appearances and last seven starts against the Mariners dating back to his last complete game shutout on July 29, 1997 at Fenway. Keep in mind, however, that no one in the Mariners lineup other than Jose Lopez (.571, 4 for 7) with one homer and Raul Ibanez (.318) is hitting over .250 against him over his career.
