Ellsbury hurts wrist, no break

Posted by Nancy Marrapese-Burrell, Globe Staff June 5, 2008 07:20 PM

Jacoby Ellsbury, who moved from left to center after Coco Crisp was ejected, appeared to hurt his right wrist when he made a diving catch on Evan Longoria's sinking liner in the fourth. Ellsbury hung onto the ball for the out but his wrist rolled over the glove and it was clear he was in pain. He was pulled from the game to have the wrist examined.

J.D. Drew moved from right to center and Kevin Youkilis came in to play right and will bat in the leadoff spot.

The Red Sox announced that Ellsbury has a strained right wrist. X-rays on the wrist were negative but he is expected to be re-examined Friday.
