Manny, Youk get into it

Posted by David Lefort, Boston.com Staff June 5, 2008 08:22 PM

Continuing with the theme of the night, Kevin Youkilis and Manny Ramirez appeared to get into it in the Red Sox dugout between the fourth and fifth innings. NESN showed footage of the incident (screenshot above) when they returned from commercial. I'm sure we'll learn more after the game.

Youkilis moved from first base to right field after the injury to Jacoby Ellsbury, who appeared to hurt his wrist making a diving catch.

  1. Wow...what's that about? There is no "history" between these two, right?

  1. I was at the game and I don't remember Youk starting at first base last night. I remember Casey starting the game on first base. I also had no clue there was an incident in the dugout between Youk and Manny. Great game and a lot of Rays should be fined and suspended for the pounding dished out to Coco

  1. Have you ever had a disagreement with a family member? That's all it is.

  1. Manny owes Youk a large PUBLIC apology.
Sox need Youk way more than Manny, now and of course in the future. Youk should not take any guff from baby Manny. In fact it may do Manny good to get a little from Youk. There is no better all around player in MLB than Youkilis.
I hope Francona sticks up for Youk.

Umm. Not exactly. Casey was playing first, and Youkilis was on the bench. Youkilis came into the game to play right when Drew moved to center.

  1. I heard from a source that the reason they got into it was manny (the punk) ramirez did not even beat the bull pin out to the fight, thats one lazy piece of sh**. Youk should have tag'd him in the nose as a little reminder.

  1. Manny is the best player that red sox have had, i understand Manny have a bad attitude, if he need to apologize with Youkilis thats matter of them. They need to resolve their issues.

  1. What happenened? In my opinion, Manny was tardy in getting onto the field to help Coco Crisp and his teammates in the brawl with The Rays. Maybe. Just maybe...somebody subtly, or not so subtly, made reference to that fact.

Thus, Manny may well have been seething, inside. Pent-up emotions. He -- unManny-like -- explodes on Youkilis. Displaced aggression.

Maybe, prior to this, some of the Sox players were getting on Youkilis for being too emotional on making outs. Complaining about strike calls (they all do it). Some more subtly than others: Mike Lowell, Jason Varitek, etc. They have their own
    styles and ways of complaining.

Hey, I've never seen Youk pull a George Brett (Academy Award performance with corked bat) or Wade Boggs. There are a host of others.

But why Youk? Pecking order? Weak link of support? College-educated, along with Varitek, Pedroia, and possibly a couple others.

Maybe it was Youkilis's remark about the homer hitters making the big money. What did they used to say: Home Run hitters drive Cadillacs, singles hitters, Fords and Chevies.
Why Youkilis? Maybe, he's an easy target. Why? Who knows? You be the judge.

Some are saying that Youk is not a team player; I haven't seen it. Hey, the players can say what they want. They're like stock on the New York Stock Exchange. Not performing, your stock goes down. You can't command as much: long-term contract, hefty raise, bonus incentives, etc. Any player who tells me that they're not out for themselves -- as well as team, well....

Come on, Manny. Get a grip. You're a star. A future Hall of Famer. Act it!

Will this go away, or will it fester? Time will tell. Will someone be traded? Stay tuned.

  1. numbers like ramirez? like his AWESOME numbers last year? manny is dead weight and the only incentive he has to produce at all this year is so the yankees will pick up his contract. manny is in no way a stud or a crucial part of this team. fuck manny ramirez, he's a douche and is weighing this team down

ramirez 2007 season batted .296 with mid 300s in the post (.340s maybe? someone help me out) 88 RBIs

youkilis finished off with a .288 with a 400s OBP. 120 errorless games and ended 07 with 1.000 FP and 83 RBIs

bottom line...the sox dont need manny...at all, and if hes gonna act like this boston doesnt need him either

  1. Being a Yankee fan, watching Kevin Youkilis and Manny Ramirez go at it, it's like watching 2 bad wrestlers fight when I was a kid. :)
