More on Manny-McCormick altercation

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Long-time Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick said he bears no ill will toward outfielder Manny Ramirez in the wake of an incident Saturday afternoon in Houston in which Ramirez shoved McCormick to the clubhouse floor over a dispute involving tickets for that night's game.

"I just want it to die,'' McCormick said this morning. "It's over. He apologized. That's it. I want us to get back to our winning ways.''

The incident came to light in a report in the Providence Journal. It took place around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, long before the clubhouse was opened to media. McCormick said he doesn't recall the precise number of tickets Ramirez had requested for that night's game -- "it was over tickets and stuff" -- but said the player became upset when McCormick indicated he might not be able to fill his request.

"It escalated on his part,'' McCormick said. "He said something about me not doing my job. But it was over in a couple of seconds.''

Manager Terry Francona did not witness the confrontation first-hand, but came out when he heard the commotion, McCormick said.

Ramirez and McCormick later met behind closed doors and Ramirez apologized to McCormick, who also spoke with GM Theo Epstein about the incident. "There's no animosity on my part,'' said McCormick, who is in his early 60s. "I hope there's not on his. I think he feels the same way.

"I'm satisfied with how the club handled this. Everything's fine.''

Ramirez told the Journal yesterday, "That's over. We're fine now.''
