Rays suspensions
In addition to the three Red Sox players suspended for their roles in last night's brawl (see below), MLB also suspended five Rays players:
James Shields: 6 games
Jonny Gomes: 5 games
Edwin Jackson: 5 games
Carl Crawford: 4 games
Akinori Iwamura: 3 games

Looks like MLB wants them to take care of it on the field
Explain to me how Lester has to miss the same amount of starts as Shields when Shields threw punches and Lester wasn't even thrown out of the game for hitting someone with a curve ball.
The Devil Rays got off easy, especially that punk Gomes. He should have been suspended for at least twice that many games. Jumping on after the fact, punching a guy who was already being held down by someone else. Completely bush league.
We love and support you Coco!!!
TB is a bunch of girlymen!!
And Joe Maddon, who started all the BS with his yelling at Crisp from the field and then whining after the Wednesday game doesn't get any suspension or fine? I understand Coco's suspension (and think Shields' should have been equal), but Gomes and Crawford got off easy. One came in from the dugout and the other from the outfield and both CLEARLY were involved. Oh well. When the Sox are playing meaningful ball in September and the Rays are back where they usually are, it won't matter.
I agree with Bill totally. Gomes' act was the act of a coward and bully. He should have gotten 2 weeks minimum. Crawford's weenie love taps reminded me of that weasel Mickey Rivers when he joined the fray pounding on Bill Lee back in 75? Personally, I would have reduced the suspension to Shields because we all know he HAD to throw at Coco or violate his manager's orders -- and the unwritten rule of backing up a teammate. And (although some look at this as being foolish), the fact that he admitted doing it purposely -- combined with the fact that he threw low instead of headhunting (which I'm sure Maddon would have preferred) -- warrants him receiving some credit. Maddon should serve a portion of the Shields suspension, along with a 5-7 day suspension of his own.

Um, hello? Why was Navarro not suspended? Did he not take Coco down by the neck and hold him there while he was pummeled? I don't get it.
You’d expect a little more class from “World Champions” but than again we are talking about Boston. Coco Crisp is a disgusting excuse for a baseball player and human being. Screw Coco, Screw the Red Sox, Screw the 18-1 ...not gonna get another chance Patriots...Screw the Celtics
Coco Crisp whining cuz somebody “scratched” his face...stop moving than and take your punches like a man..."pulled your hair”...cut it little Manny wannabee...I’d have a chip on my shoulder too if I had a retarded name like Coco Crisp...parents must have been on SOMETHING because no good parent would willingly do that to a child. I’m proud of my Rays...punked the Yanks and the Sox this season. It’s about time. And if you Sox fans really hate Tampa so much...stop coming here on vacation. Admit it...you all have...probably had the time of your lives too.
