Relievers doing the job

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff June 4, 2008 10:01 PM

Both Manny Delcarmen and Hideki Okajima had strong innings of relief in the 7th and 8th to preserve Boston's 5-1 lead.

Delcarmen struck out the side on three swinging strike threes by the bottom of the Rays order (Hinske, Gross and Bartlett). Okajima surrendered a leadoff single by Akinoro Iwamua, then struck out Crawford and Upton before inducing a Cliff Floyd ground out.

Sweet Caroline has just been heard. We're in the bottom of the 8th.
