Thunder crashing at Fenway

Posted by Boston.com Staff June 24, 2008 05:58 PM

It's 5:30, the thunder is crashing, the lightning is flashing, and the rain is pouring. What a night for baseball. The thunderstorm is huge, but expected to pass.

The first gusts of rain blew in so hard, the tarp began to lift off the infield at Fenway. The crew dashed out and secured it, then sprinted for cover as rain and lightning continued.

A few minutes later, the rain abated a bit, and Diamondbacks pitchers Micah Owings and Chad Qualls took the opportunity to make the tarp into a big slip 'n’ slide, . running out from their dugout across the tarp before diving headfirst and skimming along for a good 20 yards.

However, the rain, and lightning, continue.
