A day of denials ...
NEW YORK -- Theo Epstein just responded to an e-mail I sent him in regard to the Mark Teixeira trade rumors that have been floating around the past two days. The ESPN report was that Sox and Braves were discussing Teixeira for Kevin Youkilis and Craig Hansen.
Asked if there was anything to it, Epstein responded, "No, not at all."
Ran into agent Jeff Borris earlier today. He represents Barry Bonds. Borris denied the Sox ever had any interest in Bonds or that he had a secret workout for them.
Scott Boras and the Red Sox don't appear to be rushing into any substantive talks concerning catcher Jason Varitek's future with the team. Boras and the Sox are willing to wait until the end of the season though both parties aren't against altering those plans. Varitek is a free agent at season's end.
Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez have had a long chat sitting with other AL teammates along the first base side during tonight's home run derby. A-Rod has always spoken highly of Ramirez and considers him one of his closest friends.

The paragraph about Boras and the Sox not being in a rush to have substantive discussions about the catcher's future with the club makes no sense. Is the average reader supposed to guess that this refers to Varitek?
NO TEIXEIRA!!!
We need relievers, not a hitter!
Besides the obvious need for a relievers, the Sox must have theri eye on one of the rangers young catchers, teagarden or Salty. They have the prospects to get one and its better to do that now than wait. Vartitek is on the back nine and Cash, Brown, Kottaras et all are not ready and may never be. Trading a great prospect for another great prospect is ok providing your system had depth at the position. Bowden while good will never be more than a third starter...they have others that can fill that bill.....catching is a premium and they need to act now.
TEIXEIRA will not sign with BOSTON and Youk and Hansen would not get it done.
theo you made mistakes with gagne, lugo, drew(not worth the money)crisp-----do not make another with youklis
How can anyone say Bowden will ony be a numer three starter? He is two years younger than Bucholtz and improving rapidly.
Comment 1: Average readers would read; "Scott Boras and the Red Sox don't appear to be rushing into any substantive talks concerning catcher Jason Varitek's future with the team." I feel I need explain nothing else.
As for a catcher, why do they need one now? Tek will be here throughout the season, and I would not trade his pitch calling for anything midway through a season, that's inviting disastrous results. How can you say Bowden will be a third starter at best? What were your original thoughts on Masterson or Lester? Don't even begin to say you predicted a no-hitter, or Masterson's brilliance, I'll know you're lying. But if you did, I think the Sox have an employment opportunity for you. Some how, I know Theo will work it out, he always does.

Both Theo & Tek don't need the distraction of any contract talk now. Boras knows this and has, no doubt, already talked to Tek about this. From all reports, Theo & Boras have worked pretty well in the past together. They'll get it done after the season. Tek has a staff to take care of.
As for Teixeira, that's not what's needed. Youkilis isn't a Gold Glover by accident and he's more versatile(third base too) than Teixeira and Youk is righthanded. We already have enough lefthanded power.
If anything, make an adjustment to the pen by adding and subtracting. All it really needs is some tweaking.
I beg to differ. Drew is already proving Theo right and I believe will continue to do so. Theo has made some mistakes (not near as many as Cashman), but continues to be one of the brilliant GM's in all of baseball. He is a master at blending youth and experience while building a dynamic farm system in 5 years time. THEO, I'm glad your on our side.
this make absolutely no sense to me. Youkilus is a gold glvoe first baseman with great numbers. Hansen is a great reliever that has an AMAZING future ahead of him. They say that the Red Sox should get Texeira because we need more power, but no we dont- we need pitchers. So why get rid of a pitcher and a gold glove first baseman with power? This just doesnt make sense to me...
