Seven Sox named to All-Star team

The starters for the All-Star team have been announced, and four Red Sox are among the nine starters.

Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, Manny Ramirez, and David Ortiz have all been voted onto the team by fans. Ortiz has already said that he won't be able to participate, given his wrist injury, but that he will attend the game.

    Catcher: Joe Mauer, Twins
    First base: Kevin Youkilis, Sox
    Second base: Dustin Pedroia, Sox
    Shortstop: Derek Jeter, Yankees
    Third base: Alex Rodriguez, Yankees
    Outfield: Josh Hamilton, Rangers
    Outfield: Manny Ramirez, Sox
    Outfield: Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners
    Designated hitter: David Ortiz, Sox

  • Because the AL has a DH voted on by the fans, manager Terry Francona had one less spot to fill than Hurdle did.

    Jonathan Papelbon, J.D. Drew, and Jason Varitek were added to the four Red Sox starters to give the team seven representatives. Neither Josh Beckett nor Daisuke Matsuzaka made the squad.
