Angels retake lead on Kotchman's homer

Posted by Baxter Holmes, Globe Correspondent July 28, 2008 08:49 PM

Angels first baseman Casey Kotchman just hit a no-out, one-on home run into the Red Sox bullpen in center field, giving the Halos a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning.

Daisuke Matsuzaka had been very good at that point, retiring six straight batters before walking Chone Figgins.

The home run is Kotchman's 12th of the season, a career-high. It came on a 91-mile-per-hour slider.

It's also the first home run Dice-K has given up since June 21, a span of five starts. He had given up just 5 home runs in 17 starts this year after allowing 9 last year in as many games.

  1. Selfish baseball team that has no team concept. Man on 3rd ahead 2-1 with one out. Batter doesn't simply make contact and get the run in. Instead P{edroia strikes out on an 80 mph change up. I have never seen a team that gets so many runners on 3rd with less than 2 outs and the batter dioesn't get the run in. And sit and spit does nothing.
