Big bash

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff July 27, 2008 09:55 PM

David Ortiz just slammed one out.

And got a standing ovation to boot.

With Dustin Pedroia on second base, and a full count, David Ortiz smashed a ball into the seats in right field. It was his first home run since May 31 at Baltimore, and his first at Fenway since May 18 against Milwaukee.

It was just the 15th homer of the month for the Sox. They had been tied with the Blue Jays for the fewest in the AL in the month at 14.

It's now 7-0. (Manny Ramirez tried to make it back-to-back homers, but Melky Cabrera caught his drive in the dirt of the centerfield triangle just next to the fence by the bullpen.)
