Boras talks about Manny and the Sox
Scott Boras, Manny Ramirez's agent, was on ESPN's First Take today and spoke about the recent happenings between his client and the Red Sox:
"I think Manny and the Red Sox have had a long relationship and certainly they have dialog annually about the best interests of what his desires are, what his desires are, what the organization is," Boras said. "I think the organization and Manny are aware of what each other's positions are as they go forward. As to how that resolves I think is largely a discussion that will take place between them and I'm sure that with the level of communication they've had of late that they have an opportunity to work something out among themselves."
Boras was asked if he thought Manny would be traded by the deadline tomorrow.
"No I think when you have great players and you have a team that's a great team, those decisions become all the more difficult mainly because the fact that you have two interests at hand, one being a player who has rights and a club who has a strong interest in being very successful in the postseason and during the season so, the fact of finding a fit and putting things together is more difficult in that situation."
Boras was asked if Manny would be back with the Red Sox next season.
"Manny Ramirez is an extraordinary player," Boras replied. "He played on two World Series teams in the last four years. He's been an integral part of a great number of years of success for an organization, has a skill level that is Hall of Fame caliber and when you talk about whether or not a player goes somewhere or stays somewhere, I think that is largely dependent upon, in this case, really the best interest of both parties."

Gee, that was an enlightening.
Geez, and I thought it was *Manny* who had a hard time speaking English...
In other words, "No comment"....
puppetmaster...
Manny is being a total baffoon, because this guy wants a piece of the pie.
Part of me wishes the Sox would just tell boras and manny to go pound sand, and keep Manny. at the end of the season, sign him again, let him be a big baby all next year, and sign him again. If he cant shut up, make up a knee injury and put him on the DL; just not cave in to his tyrade. Not because I think we should have to listen to him whine all year, but because he signed this contract, and you should get what you sign for, not whine and complain your way out of it. He has a very fair contract, everyone knows it!
Manny can hit like Ted Williams but has the head of Ricky Williams
and the fielding ability of Robin Williams.
Manny and Ricky will be best friends down in Miami.
They will hang out at the QUITTERS CLUB and have a few beers and smoke a few.
Maybe Manny should take a year off, take up yoga and "find himself".
Hey Miami.... pssss you are getting a real winner.
Yeah I wouldn't doubt if Boras is behind this latest Manny fiasco just so the Red Sox doesn't pick up Manny's option. He'll get his commission alright when the new contract comes up with another team. But he's cost his client tens of millions. Too bad Manny has the brain of a baboon to see this, for it is too late to fire Boras because the damage has been done. At least A-Rod had the good sense to see the bad strategy Boras was taking and had the smarts to get rid of Boras before he could do any further damage.
I completely agree with Soxnationgirl.
This'll be great for the LA crowd and Manny. He shows up late, they leave early. Maybe they'll never even see each other. Let's hear it for Jason Bay. I can't wait to hear what the guys in the dugout have to say now that it's over. Venting is good, but let's get back to playing ball, huh?!
This guy is an agent?...What kind of advice can he give to Manny with a thinker like that? Farewell Manny, been great while it lasted. Thanks for the hits over the Green Monstahhh.... let's get on wioth some baseball. I would hire Boras to sell chicken BBQ tickets at a Little League event, but that's about the extent of dealing I'd have with him in baseball. Good luck Manny....come back when you get a year clean and sober!!
Clearly, Boras works in rhetoric and B.S. the same way The Great Masters worked in oils and clay.
1. Manny works out really hard before the year... mentions becoming a free agent.
2. Manny has a very good first half...Sox do not extend his contract.
3. Manny hires Boras and begins freaking out... throwing temper tantrums and daring the Sox to trade him... why? He wants a four year contract for $25 million and will never get that if Sox pick up his one-year option(s).
4. Boras talks about "a player who has rights..." DON'T MISS THAT... Boras was seeding the idea that Manny--who is still under contract--has "rights." No, he doesn't Boras, he signed a huge contract and agreed to the terms.
5. Conclusion: Manny wanted a contract extension, the Red Sox wouldn't give him one, (of course not when you have two one-year options left.) Manny was disgruntled, Darth Boras fueled the fire, and Manny lost his "peace," and started acting out. I hate it because I loved Manny and still do, but its a sad way to go. Jason Bay will be great, so I am glad we got him... and leaving huge money for free agents next year.... who do we go after? CC? Tex?
I agree that Boris had a hand in this. Manny is and will always be a great hitter but the bull in the clubhouse must have nbeen too much for anybody at any price to take. Good luck manny But I Think in your mind someday when they stop cheering If they even cheer in LA . you made a huge mistake for the almighty dollar.
Ditto, John S. What an abominable row of Dominoes Boras pushed on Manny. I'm still upset that he was traded, however, the envelope just kept getting pushed. Jason Bay made a great first impression last night...here's to an easy ride on route to the 2008 WS!
