Buchholz gives up two runs in first inning

Posted by Baxter Holmes, Globe Correspondent July 11, 2008 07:16 PM

Clay Buchholz hasn't played for the Red Sox since a May 12 start at Minnesota. His last start overall was July 5 with Triple A Pawtucket when he allowed five runs on six hits, walked two and struck out five in five innings.

In his first start back for the Sox, he gave up two runs in the first inning and threw 29 pitches before he got out of the frame.

He allowed the first batter to double, which turned into a run on a sacrifice fly, then walked consecutive batters before a single scored another run. Buchholz walked another batter and there was a player's conference at the mound. Buchholz got the next batter, Luke Scott, to ground out to end the inning.
