Red Sox general manager Terry Francona said slugger David Ortiz, who was placed on the 15-day DL June 3 with a torn tendon in his left wrist, will head to Triple A Pawtucket after the All-Star break for July 17, 18, and 19 games against Toledo.

Ortiz will get a day off, Francona said, and head to Double A Portland for a three-game homestand against Connecticut on Jule 21, 22, and 23.

Ortiz could re-join the team after it gets back from its six-game road trip. If he does, his first game back would be July 25 at Fenway Park against the Yankees.

"That's not etched in stone but that's what we're looking at," Francona said.

Francona said Ortiz hit against the pitching machine Friday and tried to simulate as much as he could. Ortiz will go to the All-Star game in New York Monday and hit in the cage there, too.

When asked if he felt 100 percent, Ortiz said, "I don’t know. I’ve got to play first. Sometimes I get a little sore but it’s not the sore that bothers me... Hopefully when I start facing speed, everything still feels the same way when I’m hitting. That’s good enough for me."
