The Angels completed a three-game sweep of the error-prone Red Sox with a 9-2 victory tonight before a Fenway Park crowd of 38,042, who watched as the American League West leaders erupted for 16 hits, including 11 off of Josh Beckett, who absorbed his third consecutive loss in as many starts after allowing eight runs in 5-1/3 innings to drop to 9-8 on the season.

The Sox matched a season high with four errors, three during a wild five-run eruption by the Angels in the sixth inning.

Garrett Anderson, who went 4 for 5 with 4 RBI, delivered the crushing blow in the sixth when he belted a 2-run homer off Beckett. It helped the Angels blow the game wide open, 8-2, after Coco Crisp's 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth had pulled the Sox within one run, 3-2.

Joe Saunders (14-5) got the win for the Angels.

Torii Hunter hit a solo homer off Justin Masterson (1.2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 strikeout) to lead off the ninth. It added insult to injury as the Angels took a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth.

  1. I don't know folks but this reminds me of the Red Sox teams of the early 1980's where there was constant infighting by star players, and the stupidity in the clubhouse becomes mediocrity on the field. While I try to be an optimist, I just see to many simularities to those teams that ended up the season 15-30 games out of first place. While I like Tito Francona, he does at times be somewhat less of a disciplinarian when it is needed the most. If it means putting Manny "I wannabe traded" Ramirez on the bench or suspending him, then DO IT. Otherwise, John Henry is gonna be sorry he waited, especially when his only hope of winning is on asphalt circle of dreams, and not the field of dreams called Fenway!

  1. Game over.. pack it up and wait for next year... obviously, they could turn around and all of a sudden be a team that they should be and win, but from the looks of this HORRIBLY PATHETIC performance during this series and particularly in this game, plus the lack of any trade movement, while other competitors beef up, I think we can pretty much kiss any thoughts of a championship GOODBYE!!!

  1. The Sox brass certainly don't seem to be trying very hard to improve this team, do they? Look at the Yankmes trades! They picked up most if not all the pieces they needed to improve, but the Sox seem unable to do anything, and I'm not just talking about Manny, I'm talking about all the other needs: relief pitching, catcher, shortstop, outfield, and what? Nothing done at all. Guess they figure this team is OK as is, which would be fine if they were playing well, but they're not, and this team and season are looking more and more like the stinkeroos of 2 years ago. If the brass stays pat, someone has got to motivate this team to play better. These players have been stinking up the field and there's no excuse for it.
