Shortstop Julio Lugo was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left quadricps injury. He had an MRI today and said the doctor told him it was torn; the team said it was a "severe strain." He is expected to be out 4-to-6 weeks and was in the team clubhouse with a large brace on his left leg.

Jed Lowrie was called up from Triple A Pawtucket last night to replace Lugo on the roster. He'll get the start at shortstop tonight, with Alex Cora starting in tomorrow's 1:35 game against Baltimore.

“Because of the days off coming up, there’s no reason to get too far ahead of ourselves,” Sox manager Terry Francona said. “We wanted to play each one of them one game and because of Cora’s success against Cabrera, it made sense tomorrow to do that. I don’t want Lowrie to go six days without playing.”

When asked if it was as bad as it looked, Lugo said "Oh, it's bad." Lugo is supposed to meet with his doctor soon, so look for an update on the blog about that.

- J.D. Drew re-enters the lineup tonight after missing two games with a back injury. He will bat third in the lineup and play right field.

- Coco Crisp is still recovering from some minor bumps and bruises. Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Crisp's forearms are both sore.
