Is Varitek All-Star worthy?

Jason Varitek -- mired in a lengthy offensive slump -- returns to the Red Sox lineup today for the finale of a three-game set with the Minnesota Twins. On Tuesday's Globe 10.0, Bob Ryan and Kevin Paul Dupont debated whether the Red Sox captain deserved the All-Star spot his peers voted him to.

  1. His peers voten him in. They know his offensive numbers. And they know about the defense and how he prepares the pitchers. He was voted in for a reason. It's time to move on from this subject.

  1. Of course Tek is worthy of being on the All Star team. Especially if voted in by his peers. I think being an all star is about more than just the numbers which makes Tek a perfect choice. Numbers help, but it should be about the guy that goes out there every day and gives the game 100%, the guy that's a leader on the field, in the clubhouse and in the community. In my mind Tek makes a perfect All Star.
