Manny speaks
After telling ESPNdeportes today that he would not block a trade if the Red Sox could find a trading partner, Manny Ramirez expanded on that in his first comments since the situation with him and the team reached a head this weekend.
In a session that lasted just fewer than two minutes with assembled reporters in the Red Sox clubhouse, Ramirez confirmed that statement.
"What I said was if the Red Sox they think they could find a trade that's going to make the team better and both sides are going to be happy, I'm going to agree," he said. "But if they cannot find a trade... It's something simple. It's no big deal. At the end of the season, all they've got to do is call my agent and say, 'Hey, we're not going to pick Manny's option for '09, he's going to become a free agent.' And that's it. I go my way, and you guys go your way, something simple."
Here is more of the Q&A with Manny:
Do you feel like they want you to go your separate ways?
"I don't know, that's my idea. That's it, something simple. I don't want to talk to them about contracts right now. So what? I know they got me, but enough is enough. I'm tired of them, they're tired of me. After 2008, just send me a letter or whatever. You don't even got to call my agent or whatever. 'Hey, thank you for everything. You're going to become a free agent. We're not going to pick up your option in '09.'"
Do you expect that to happen?
"That will happen. They're not stupid."
When they've talked to you, have they expressed their problem with you?
"Boston is not stupid. They're not going to do it. They can say whatever they want. But when it comes to make a deal, they're not going to pull the trigger, because they know what they've got here."
Are you happy here?
"I'm happy. But enough is enough."
When you say "enough is enough," what does that mean?
"That's it. You've got to ask Theo and John Henry, they know."

Sack the jerk.
Doesn't anybody realize that this happens EVERY YEAR around the TRADING DEADLINE?????
Manny really isn't that hard to read. Between the All-Star break and trading deadline, he gets "injured" and takes one of his vacations, the Sox all get pissed at him, they tease breaking up, the deadline passes, Many is still at Fenway, everybody loves each other again.
wow.. Manny just called the Red Sox cowards, saying they wouldnt dare trade him.
Sadly, he's right. No one will trade for him, and he can join Barry Bonds in the "blackballed" list.
See ya.
Thanks for the memories.
Hey Manny... "Just do your job'!
It's just Manny being a dumb ass!
Manny's gettin railroaded. He's making it worse for himself, but it isn't his fault.
The greatest right-handed hitter in Red Sox history should be treated a little bit better, but hey, this is the organization that let Carlton Fisk get away. This is the organization that said good-bye to Pedro Martinez after he showed them how to win.
Manny is 2nd in back of Ted Williams as the greatest hitter the Sox have ever had (unless you want to count Babe Ruth), but they will let him go. And then it will be 10 or 15 years before they win again. Bet on it.
a sad example of how Boston Sports eats its own. This guys has done nothing but bring us excelent baseball. Who cares if he dises the media or has hiccups with the red sox staff. I will miss seeing him in left and knocking runs in...
Hey guys..
If we lose manny, we will not win postseason
seriously..
We need him to win the postseason!
Theo!!
plz contact with him and give better option
I can not fotget when he homruned from K-ROD during postseason!!
I wanna see again!!
It's awesome watching a collective group of disgustingly wealthy men bitch and moan about this stuff. In other news, rumor has it times are rather tough these days for us clowns who eat this stuff up and attach various levels of significance to sports entertainment.
Manny has made 160 million dollars the last eight years, but he needs the "comfort" of knowing where he''ll be making many more millions next year? Ah, why? He signed a contract to play this year for 20 million, who care's about next year or the the next decade for that matter?
From where I'm sitting, Manny has his priorities way outta wack. Too bad, he seems likeable.....but anybody who aquires that kind of wealth by playing baseball, only to act like a spoiled child in the end is hard to muster up much respect for, let alone sympathy.
"Boston is not stupid. They're not going to do it. They can say whatever they want. But when it comes to make a deal, they're not going to pull the trigger, because they know what they've got here."
Manny sounds very arrogant here. It's like he's saying " I can do what I want because you will never trade no matter what you say, I am too valuable to the team for you to trade me"
If indeed Manny feels he is so valuable to the RedSox, why doesn't he put his teamates above his own petty, childish nonsense? I can understand how a player may not feel loyalty to his team's owners or management. What I can't understand ( or accept) is when a player shows no loyalty to his teamates. When a player quits on his team, and by extension his teamates, it's time for him to go.
I agree with Rob; blend a little knowledge of psychology and history and no one has to get all worked up. Manny's being Manny and Red Sox fans are being Red Sox fans.
"I'm happy. But enough is enough."
Enough is enough with you Manny. Your lack of defense and piss-poor attitude is something that this team can...and hopefully will do without. Having you around and just waiting for your mid season melt-down is absolutely rediculous, and it's unfair to the rest of the team. You've done some great things for this team, and some not so great things (like that catch a couple weeks ago. Sure...anyone can miss a fly ball...but to roll around, get up just to trip and fall again THEN, get up laughing about it...?). It's time for Manny and the Sox to part ways.
Disgruntled - at $20M/year and on the most successful ballclub of the past 5 years.
MANCHILD BEING MANCHILD
Time to get younger anyway. Thanks for the memories Manny. Hello Matt Holiday???
the thing nobody seems to remeber is that when Ortiz when down Manny was trying to play with hamstring issues and continued to play just about until Ortiz came back so excuse me but give the guy a break and stop bashing him yes he can be the biggest baby on the team but when you get to the status that he's at let him be sorry but getting tired of all of the Manny bashing
manny suck it up your getting paid 20 million and your hitting like your getting the league minimum?one year left and your gone..nobodys gonna want what your doing on any team......so i hope you dont get crap in the off season.get the hell out of dodge cause to me a die hard redsox fan you suckkkkkkk
You know, there are more important things than winning the ALCS or the World Series, like dignity and sportsmanship. If the Sox can unload this abusive, out-of-control ego , I don't care if they need time to build a team that can win it all again. It's not like he's out there consistently winning games right now for us anyway. Count me as one who's had enough of "Manny being Manny."
Manny cant be trusted.!!
He's been a good hitter for a lot of years, but he's getting paid pretty well too, and he doesn't have the right in my opinion to act like a kid in the middle of a very important homestand by sitting himself down for no apparent reason. He should have been glad tha Big Papi was back and they could be in the lineup together for the first time since May 31st. I'm still mad as #$%@ about that pinch-hitting performance in New York earlier this month. Now he has the audacity to call out management and saying they haven't been accomodating to him. Give me a break! Trade him for whatever you can get for him and Thanx for the memories!!
Things are a little different with this latest Manny episode. After slapping Youk, tossing the traveling to the ground when he couldn't get enough tickets for Manny, and lets face it, Manny isn't exactly the force he used to be. Yeah, he could still turn it on in the playoffs or whatever, but the thing is, Sox management have kissed Manny's butt for a long time now, and something tells me this time they've had enough. They're starting to look like spineless fools when dealing with Manny's antics.
He's an idiot, RSN is full of idiots; in the end they're perfect for eachother.
Manny being Manny is the same as a 3 year old being a 3 year old.
Thanks BlowHARD Theo Epstein who by luck won a WS last year but won in 2004 due to trades and once again he does nothing.
Manny was top of the heap, happy, (finally) and went for a while without the BS, but now Theo and Happy Gay Lucky Henry and his Nascars could care less and are letting, a top nonch hall of famer leave which will make 29 other teams very happy. No more Manny/Ortiz, Ortiz/Manny combo.
Good job Theo, as a RED SOX fan part of me wants to see Manny go and then win several MORE WS and have the SOX blow apart and have all the members (Ortiz, et-cetera) say they want out.
Hope Manny sticks it to them well, cheap stupid gay birds.
Sox FO and chattering class are transferring their disappointment over their lineup productivity and RISP all upon Manny.
Manny is a wise a** - i appreciate everything he's done over the years but now he is just too cocky and arrogant. His personality doesn't fit Boston any more. They are going to have to say goodbye and it is apparent that he does not really care. I think he is angry because he expected they would jump to make him an offer to continue and they didn't.. too bad - manny is still a baby and needs to grow up = maybe he will...hopefully somewhere else.
the sox need to keep manny, media blows this out of proportion, greatest hitter the sox have ever had, manny manny
It's very hard to make a justifiable comment when one can only speculate on the facts behind the scenes. Manny's always been clutch when it has mattered most and his antics aside, he is still worth more than we could get in a trade. I think this latest saga shows how much David Ortiz means to us not only with the bat but his ability to keep Manny loose and focused. The experts say it takes all the little factors to go right in addition to the great ones in order for a team to win a championship. I think this year to date, that's what our Red Sox are missing. Chuck
Manny!! Say no to trade. See ya in BRONX! next year!
Why don't you castigate the guy for having an opinion people? There's obviously more going on than "we" the Red Sox Nation fully know. The fact is the guy is a world class hitter. And, my opinion is that if you don't like the answer, don't ask the question.
I have been a Manny fan for years due to hs production, I have held my nose at his failur to run out ground balls, his showboating after hitting a long ball, and his alloofness, But when I see his fake injuries and not care about the team I get fed up. I"d rather lose without himand maintain some integrity on the team than win with him.
If Manny is traded, does the '09 and '10 options go with him? In other words, does his new team get the right to pick up those options?
This Team would have won ZERO WS w/o Manny and you all know it.
Bunch of Pink B hat wearing Hypocrites!!!!
Manny!! Say no to trade. See ya in BRONX! next year!
how did we ever get here in the first place? this is the kind of behavior by manny the sox should have addressed seasons ago, It's very sad .
I don't get it....these athletes are maddening. Where else would you rather play Manny? You are beloved here, but you continue to make things difficult on yourself, teammates and the organization. Why....? Maybe it's time to cut the cord and get a marquee player who appreciates playing for the greatest team and sports city in the world!
LEAVE MANNY, THE HELL WITH THE RED SOX'S!!!
THIS IS A DAMN SHAME. YESTERDAY, DURING THE FOX SPORTS BROADCAST BETWEEN THE SOX'S AND THE YANK'S... ON THE AIR, ONE OF THE COMMENTATORS SAID THAT "THE RED SOX'S ASKED HIM TO SAY THAT IF MANY WOULD AGREE THAT THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO TRADE HIM"............... THAT'S A DAMN SHAME THE WAY THEY TREATING MANNY... I HOPE THAT HE GETS TRADED TO THE YANKEES AND COMES BACK TO F...ING BEAT THE RED SOX'S FOR BEING A BUNCH OF DISLOYAL SON'S OF BITCHES. I AM A RED SOX FAN, BUT I TELL YOU THIS... IT'LL BE HARD TO BE A FAN OF THE RED SOX'S IF THEY TRADE AWAY THE BEST RIGHT HANDED HITTER IN RED SOX'S HISTORY
I've never been one to want to move Manny, but although the timing sucks...it may be time.
The guy's no longer a 45-140-.330 guy. He's 30-100-.290. Still pretty good! But not at 20 mil. Why not trade him for a young slugger and a pitching prospect.
Manny's too expensive for FL, but I'd love to have Hanley Ramirez back.

I always thought an athlete gives a little extra in a contract year. Manny couldn't have picked a worse time to "be Manny". He is not only destroying the chemistry and playoff drive for this team, but any chance of a last mega deal contract before he retires. As a student of the game, I'm VERY surprised he doesn't take this into account. The season is almost over and he can part ways with the Sox (another $20 million richer) at the end of the season. No team is going to be giving him the kind of money he thinks he's worth now given his antics (again). As a Sox fan, it's truely sad! I would love to see him in the Hall of Fame one day with a Sox jersey on, and appreciate him for all he has done on the field (two World Series rings in my lifetime!).
For all the above aforementioned positive comments, let me ask you, "Do you think he's layed down on you as a teammate, in effect, sandbaged this past Wednesday and Friday?"
I do. Youk should have kicked his a$$ a couple of weeks ago.
Manny will be gone by seasons end! The problem with that is Manny staying around until the seasons end. He brings all the baggage of an overpaid under performing loser to the clubhouse and diamond every time he shows up to play, if in fact he shows up to play? This is a classic case of addition by subtraction ……..Trade Manny!
If Colorado doesn't want a lot of younger talent for Holliday, then why not trade Manny, Crisp and a couple of propects for Holliday and Fuentes?
If only Boston didn't have to worry about my Yankees closing in faster than an F16, now one of their best players really don't wanna be there. Hey Manny comes from the Bronx but he seems better off playing the "Manny being Manny" game in Boston. We don't have time right now for his games; good luck RedSox fans, hope this doesn't create anymore stress for you.
Say it again, HLS, maybe you'll get the response you're trolling for...admittedly, like everyone who cares enough to post on message boards, I am frustrated with Manny. The fact is that we all want to like Manny, we want to laugh off his eccentricities and inexplicable behaviors, but that finally, his direct antipathy toward management (and us, in turn) has sapped us our our Manny-love. The question remains, though, and it is--what do we want out of our Red Sox players? Do we want a team of Variteks, who are proud, honest (although infidelity rumors have dogged him for years, as well), and symbols of integrity, yet who will never, even be the same class as Manny as a player...or can we live with the aloof, mysterious star, who doesn't care about baseball history or tradition or "respecting the game" yet who is directly responsible for leading to us World Series victories. I don't know the answer, either, but I know I will miss Manny. He was (and is) an artist with the bat, one of the greatest ever to play, and someone whose talent we will undoubtedly miss in the years he is absent from the 4 spot.
This club is too flawed to make it past the ALDS, maybe not even make it that far. The bullpen is an adventure. The hitting is inconsistent. But we're generally young and talented with more coming. Manny is clearly saying that his product on the field doesn't warrant 20m/yr. Any more than Pedro or Damon deserved their desired money and/or years when they were allowed to walk. If they can trade him for value {and package some stiffs like Lugo and any superfluous underachieving wunderkind pitchers}, do it. If not, we'll watch Manny malinger thru the rest of this season before he's released. If he was Manny being Manny {i.e. 40 HR's, 125-150 RBI's} we can put up with his antics. Absent that...see ya.
Every yr. at this time Manny quits. He is a quiter
The reason they didn't press him like this in the past is because they knew this is how he would react. He's a manchild and a malcontent. I say keep him til the end of the season then let him go. As they aren't going to get his worth in a trade.
I've always been an Manny apologist. In the past I always felt like I could handle him taking an occasional day off, or him "dogging it" in the field. This was because he could more than make up for it with his bat. I certainly wouldn't coach a kid and tell him to approach the game like him but for me, his numbers gave him a license to do those things. Heck, without him we probably don't win EITHER world series. This time it's different. Now it seems all about money. To sit himself out and put his team's chances in jeopardy because he's he's worried about making $60 million instead of $40 million tells you everything you need to know. Don't even get me started about his altercation with a 60 year old man. In the past his "Manny Moments" were....(as Crash Davis would say...."Colorful") Now, his recent actions are just pathetic. Note to Manny--just a few weeks ago as far as beloved Boston sports figures, you were in the same conversation as Yaz, Bird, Ortiz, Brady, and Orr. Unfortunately, with your recent actions and almost certain departure, you'll be despised more than Johnny Damon. I mean, at least he gave 100% when he was here. No, you're in the Carl Everett category. Be careful what you wish for Manny, YOU WILL NEVER FIND A CITY THAT LOVED YOU LIKE BOSTON. I hope the extra money you "MIGHT" make is worth that to you.
WAY'DA GO THEO!!!....
PISSIN OFF THE GREATEST RIGHT HEADED HITTER IN THE RED SOX'S HISTORY.
THE F..ING MEDIA, AMPLIFIED BY THEO AND HENRY, KEEPS BOTHERING MANNY. BIG PAPI WILL COLLAPSE IF MANNY LEAVES. LOWELL WILL COLLAPSE IF MANNY LEAVES. IF YOU TRADE MANNY, THE RED SOX'S WILL NOT MAKE IT TO THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR NOR THE NEXT.
He said Theo and John Henry, not Tito.
It's Manny being a spoiled brat and it's so tiring to watch grown men playing a kids game for millions, being revered by average Joes, and have them behave like this. We appreciate what you've done for us but, YES, it is time to move on! Roll your ass out of Beantown. We don't want or need your tired ass antics anymore.
Manny is the best right handed hitter in the game. Sox F.O. is dreading the day everybody finds out their farm system (Buchholz, Hansen, Masterson etc.) doesn't have the arms the globe/homer media thinks they have. Fact is, Yanks farm (Wang, Cano, Cabrera, Chamberlain firmly established) has outproduced Sox (Pedroia, Papelbon, Ellsbury). Despite this all you hear is how great sox farm is. Where's the beef? Chamberlain is the piece that ends all the arguments and as good as a hitter as Pedroia is, Cano's a better overall player and just as good a hitter. Yanks are announcing this at the same time they make a super trade for championship quality components and make a daredevil run on Tampa and Boston.
It's pretty obvious to me Sox front office needs a way to shift the blame on the fact that C Money (Brian Cashman) has won this round of the chess game between him and Mr. Nepotism himself, executive wonder indie rock boy Theo Epstein.
If you want to see your
Sox a

How come nobody mentioned that Manny sat out against Felix Hernandez and Joba Chamberlain two of the hardest throwing right handers in Baseball? It is clearly time for Manny to go!! his numbers are declining and even his teammates are sick of his act. Manny helped the Red Sox win two World Championships but
its time for Manny and the Red Sox to move on. Manny must be traded before the deadline and dont count out the Red Sox from repeating without Manny!!
first of all, manny needs to go bye bye, send him to atlanta for texiera,.
oh and manny being a yankee? god id wish that upon them all the time. an over the hill player whos past his prime and declining rapidly who doesnt like the press or the spotlight, ..yeah he wont get that in new york. ill take Matsui from the yanks and you can keep manny. But as any baseball fan would know, there is no waythe yanks will get manny anyway, they wont pay 20 million a year for the three years manny wants , as far over the luxury tax as they are and just added nady, and they have to re-sign mussina, mannys totalprice tag er year with luxury tax openalties would be around 45 million a year which is no way going to happen.
see as you go higher ove the luxury tax your penalty rate goes up, and considering the yanks have to look at replacing or re-signing, Giambi, Abreu, Pettitte, Mussina and farnsworth, manny just wouldnt fit in to that payroll. besides where do you put manny? you wouldnt replace matsui, or abreau, and manny cant play center, so what DH him? yea pay him 20 mil to be your DH? most expensive dh in hsitory?, trustme cashman and steinbrenner arent that dumb.
You know manny has really screwed up this time as even big papi, was upset about it when they asked him about manny he was downtrodden and dour. very unlike papi. sorry manny i was one of your biggest fans, but youve got such a hrd life making hundreds of millions of dollars to play a game and be adored, and all you can do is complain...and all you have to do is look one place higher in the batting order and you see big papi, the man people love, who makes less money yet wins more games, and is so well loved that even the national league players has papi sit with them during the all star homerun derby. Manny has the personality of sandpaper, and the intelligence of a gnat. to all you people saying you love him so..all i can say is when manny walks out during the playoffs, what do we do then? just say its manny being manny?
bythe way jd drew, youkillis and pedroia all have better numbers this year than manny does and at a lot less money and without griping.
oh manny you have such a hard life..dont let the green monster door hit you in the - - - on the way out.
What I really hate is the distraction all this is causing. I am a life long Red Sox fan. (I am 55 now)I mean, I LOVE THE RED SOX! And, I love the game of baseball. All of this is just so difficult to handle. Baseball is a great sport and to see it played and to see it played well is just so much fun. To actually be paid to play...WOW!!! Those of us who are construction workers, teachers, secretaries, bus drivers etc etc etc - we pay our hard earned money to watch you guys play the game we LOVE! JUST PLAY!
Well folks...we have a serious problem on our hands...It really doesn't matter if you like Manny or not or think he is disloyal or not....It's not about Manny its about another World Series, and the best way to get into that position...WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE CAN GET TO REPLACE THAT MANS BAT!!!???? ANYONE, ANYONE?! Yup I thought so...If you were thinking Holliday forget about it..he is no Manny....the only way id feel comfortable would be with Big Albert P...A-Rod or oh gosh dare I say it Barry Bonds...because those are the only men that carry a stick big enough to fill the HUGE VOID Manny leaving would place there....Now sit back and think about that one kids....No bat to protect David Ortiz!?No championship for the Sox this year!?....scary feeling isn't it?...We all better start praying for a miracle
Manny spilling his guts to the media. Incredible, this guy doesn't have the brains god gave a nat. But, he can mash with the best of them.
Red Sox owners have a way of getting dirty and trashing players before they leave. It's so obvious. The organization goes into overdrive to "beat" the player, with pr dirty tricks, manipulation of news, etc. These Red Sox owners are champions but they are not gracious to their players.
and P.S.
I really do love Manny!! :)
Its all real simple point at Theo,Tito,or John fact is Manny is a over grown boy that is paid very well to act and perform professionally . he is like a spoiled brat that needs to be pampered to keep happy. Manny when you cash that check that is all you need to make you act like you are supposed to grow up PERIOD or go home .

Wow!! With all the special treatment this jerk gets he still finds something to complain about!! I am so sick of hearing the phrase "Manny being manny" I could puke! The Red Sox possibly have the biggest star treatment clubhouse in the majors and it still isn't enough for this a$$!!! Just ask Youk what kind of team player Manny is!! And all you folks in the bronx, just remember that your team has a dress code and rules concerning appearance (which includes long dreads!)
It is all about public relations. The Red Sox plan not to pick up Manny's $20m option. The machine villianizes him. Manny, being Manny, helps out the machine by playing into it.
Nomar, Derick Lowe, Big Mo, all the way back to Clemens. Same as it ever was.
I still say Manny will be a New York Yankee next year. How about trading Manny for Giambi and players to be named later and money etc
Thanks for the memories Manny
I think what manny meant when he said "they're not stupid" is that they won't trade him in the middle of a race, but more to the point, he means that they won't pick up a $20 million option. Seriously. He's good, but not worth $20 million at this point. Really, who is? Is attitude has always been brutal. We got a bat for years, but never got his heart. He's not a Jeter type, where he defines the team. I'd rather he stay, but that's too much dough.
I'm sticking with my team through and through -- I love 'em when they suck and love 'em when they win --
As far as Manny -- well, I think the media is blowing it out of proportion.
i think his teammates, tito, theo , owners, and fans will breathe a collective sigh of relief when he's finally gone.
The marriage with the Sox is over! The Sox should take the best offer on the table from any National League team. Manny's 36 years old anyway. Let's be honest,
he's clearly on the downside of his career. All you have to do is look at baseballs
all-time greatist, Ruth, Aaron, Mays and so on, and see that he's clearly on the way down. This is true even if you look at his above average numbers this year. The Red Sox philosophy has always been to never hang on to aging super stars. His numbers are comparable to Kevin Youkilis. Let's spend the $20m on Hamilton and Mauer. Change is inevitable.
At 36 years of age, he's had it and we've had it...........Bye Manny.......You are not worth $20million.............
The Red Sox owe Manny an apology. They would never pull this nonsense with Jason V or Mike Lowell.
all this talk about behavior? Boston??? bla bla bla....you're just hot and cranky because it's July and can't get your head around the fact that Manny wins.
It's ironic that Manny says "enough's enough" about the Red Sox and the organization. The truth is, it's completely the other way around.
This is great for the Red Sox,we need a breath of fresh air.No One player is more important than the whole team. He's a headache
dansdad,
Manny should get treated a little bit better? Cut the sht!!! Are you kiddin me? They treat him like a king, and frankly he's done nothing to deserve it. Yes, he's a great hitter, but when it comes to character and integrity, let's not kid ourselves. Has he helped us win 2 World Series? Absolutely! But, let's be honest, the guy is a spoiled man child who's too dumb to deal with like a man. We may need to keep him to keep winning titles, but let's stop making excuses for him. I wish our travel secretary had been a young man, and had popped him one good. Look, every year when Manny pulls this routine, I go back and forth between being really angry
with him, and then falling back in love with him. It's one of the toughest things about being a Sox fan over the past 5+ years. Putting up with Manny's BS. The fact is, I LOVE the Red Sox and I always will. When Manny's gone and we're not looking so good, I'll be the first fan to long for the good old days when we had him, and think "why couldn't we have just found a way to deal with him." But sometimes, enough is enough. I'm not sure if we are at that point with Manny, but it's ONLY because of what we can get out of his bat. That's the bottom line! Other than his bat, he is a pathetic waist of space as a human being. If we can replace his bat with a TRUE hitter, I say it's way past time. YES! I may live to regret these words, but I think I'm willing to take the risk at this point. Sure, go ahead and defend him, but not as a human being who treats fans, his teammates, and the organization with respect. He constantly disrespects everyone, especially his teammates. That is his biggest sin. The rest of this great team deserves better. Manny being Manny, usually comes at the expense of his teammates, who he constantly lets down. Good bye Manny, and don't let the door hit you on the a$$. Yes! I'll probably miss you, but nobody can ever say we didn't try our hardest with this man child. Worst of all, his numbers simply do not merit $20 mil. a year. We've got at least 2 or 3 YOUNG guys on the team, making diddly, who's numbers are as good as the mighty Manny. I would love more than anything, to see us unload Manny and Lugo. Play Lowrie full time, and look for a great hitting outfielder and some long relief. Perhaps even an allstar shortstop, but I'm willing to bet on Lowrie? We could sure get a lot for $20 mil / year.??????
I do get a big kick out of some people trying to blame EVERYONE BUT MANNY for Manny's actions and words. One would have to be ignorant, or just plain stupid to blame Tito, or the Front office, or "the media" for anything that Manny does.
My 8 year old son has a greater sense of responsibility than Manny displays. And too many fans want to give Manny a free pass on EVERYTHING just because he can hit a baseball. It's time for Manny to grow up.
Manny has QUIT on his teamates, and when he cares more about his own petty nonsense more than he does about the rest of the guys in that clubhouse, he has got to go.
I like how the spineless reporters ask .. "Did they say this to you?... did they do that to you?? how do you feel about them doing this to you?..."
Why don't they ask ".. .why have you done this?" "Why have you outgrown your welcome here"... HAVEBALLS!
How can anyone possibly look at this and think that Manny is correct in his words or deeds.
1. He is paid 20 million a year to play baseball, acutally more to hit than to field but that's another story.
2. All he has to do is show up on or close to the appointed hour and play baseball.
3. He is asked not to fight with others on the team, not to slap around 60 plus year old men and to communicate concerns to his boss(es). That's not a high bar to hit folks. Heck, that's the reduced set of expectations he's arranged.
Look, he's a decent to slightly above average fielder with diminishing speed that will gradually turn him into a full time DH. If you believe him, his knees are increasingly an issue. Yes, he can hit and you won't replace all of his offense. But you'll replace some of it and for far less than 20 mil per year.
Goodby Manny, don't let the screen door hit ya where the good Lord split ya on the way out. By the way, you've played a game in Boston the past few years. Thank God tonight you are not in Iraq fighting with the brave men and women there. That Manny, was an ignorant comment.
Manny is not a player he is a mercenary. He doesn't care about winning, his
teamates.Do any of you really think he gives a shit about a championship?
He's a stupid man who can hit.An x or y chromsone here or there and he would
working at Shaw's.
Here is a FACT that no Boston fan can dispute. There have been many great hitters that have come thru the Boston red sox. BUT, they were not so great when they left, for the reason is that many of thier great hits and homers came at fenway park and fenway park is a very small park, If you don't agree, ask Mo vaughn. The homers they ht here are nothing but high and deep, but not out of the park. So let him go, he won't see the stats he has here.
Manny, just get the hell out of town.
Everyone who thinks the Red Sox will collapse this session without Manny, mark our words. This team is not going to make it to the post with or without Manny. The competition in the AL East is much better this year, and Theo's experiment with bringing everyone back for a victory lap fared no better than his big changes plan following the '04 Series win (Matt Clement everybody!). It was a feel good move to have almost all the team back and everyone, including us, agreed with it.
Even so, we and Theo knew that keeping the crew intact would lessen the chance of a repeat. After all, older is usually not better in baseball. Add to this the collapse of JV, Coco, and Jelly plus the stunning mediocrity of Julio Lugo and the relievers, and even a Manny hitting .330 with 50 dings and 120 RBIs wouldn't be able get this team to the post.
And it's okay, really.
The Sox need to continue the move to the next generation of players. The good news is, Manny creating a Scotty Boras assisted crap storm, makes it easier for everyone to move on; The Sox, the fans, Manny. Sure, he'll get to 600 home runs with the Yankees (Remember, DH Jason Giambi won't be back) or another team looking to spend long for a short term splash, but each year of his next deal will see his numbers sliding further. This is the reason the Sox didn't resign Pedro (Only one good year for the Mets), or Damon (Boras repped and mostly a disappointment in the Bronx).
Just sit back, relax, and let the next chapter in the history of the Boston Red Sox unfold. The Sox will make the post again within a year or two and probably the World Series within 2-4 years. That is the way the brain trust operates, and we should all be glad they have such a strong vision and deep pockets to back it up.
Ease up on Manny, ease up on Theo; Divorces aren't pretty, and both sides of this situation are already going through enough without our hand-wringing histrionics.
As always, GO SOX!

Ummm. For all you idiots who keep talking about the terrible way the Red Sox have treated Manny -- how exactly have they abused him??? By asking him to play? What's wrong with you freaks?
I love the Sox and its players as much as anyone here, but if a player is repeatedly causing problems FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON, then it's time to say goodbye.
Again, I defy any moron here to specify exactly what Sox management is supposed to have done to poor Manny?
Good Bye.
I'd rather lose 160 games a year with players that care, that stood up with (and for) each other than win with spoiled brats that think they're bigger than the game and disrespect it, the team, the sport, themselves and the fans. This ego is so inflated, he thinks he can act this way in a contract year and not have it effect his future either here or anywhere else, lol.
Here's a reality check, Manny: We'd be lucky to trade you and get anything of any value back, thanks to your attitude and your annual quit you pull.
You had it made here. People worshiped you. They looked the other way when you quit nearly every year. They put up with your childish, selfish antics. They laughed (and cringed) when everyday flyballs became adventures. Excuses were made. You were pampered. All you had to do was show up and pretend that you cared.
Good luck getting that free pass in NY, buddy. Look how fast they threw A-Rod under the bus, lol, and he's a complete multiple tool player, unlike you. And good luck with that Gold Glove delusion, lol. Try playing left field everyday somewhere outside the Fenway bandbox that you can't chase down flyballs in now.
Oh, Oh OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I told you before this "Manny" situatoin NY would take this series........and , the
" ", goes on................
I think Manny sees the writing on the wall and knows that he is gone whether that be this Thursday at the trading deadline or at the end of the season. I think there is more to this story then the media can get at. Internally, I think that Manny has caused a bunch of problems for the Red Sox with his attitude and aloof play at times over his career here. However, he is still beloved in the city of Boston and within Red Sox Nation. There lies the rub! The Red Sox don't want to deal or rid themselves of such a popular player for little or nothing in return. If the Red Sox can pursue a trade that will get some very good prospects in return, free up 40 million dollars over the next two seasons and use that money to land some very good players that can help the team win then I don't see how the Red Sox can refuse. If they don't get that, then it is "Manny being Manny" for the rest of the season
What a bunch of brain(less) washed Red Sox idiots most of you people are.
Manny is a total ASS, and all you retards completely forgive him because he is the "greatest RS hitter" of all time.
Maybe as a baseball player he is good, but as a human being he is a PIECE OF CRAP, but you are willing to forgive as long as he wins a WS for the RS.
No wonder everyone hates the RS and Boston....what a bunch of hypocritical jerks...
Bad attitude, he needs to go today, the sooner the better.
Trade him ASAP! They dumped Nomar in '04 for being a quitter and they ended up winning it all. Manny has had a great career, but the team comes first, and his act is SO tired. He's not worth $20 million, but I'm sure Theo can get some value for him from somebody. How 'bout the Cubs? They must be desperate to win after 100 years.
Won't see the stats he has here? Take a look at the stats he had in Cleveland before he came here. Or his road stats. The guy can flat out hit and it doesn't matter if it's Boston or anywhere else.
Personally, I think he should stay. He still produces and he protects Papi and many others in the lineup. At $20 million, probably not but it's not my money and it's not yours. Besides, this is great drama! Like any of your favorite TV shows...after all, this isn't sports anymore, it's entertainment.
Manny, you are the Red Sox. Stay. I'm a season ticket holder and take this stuff too seriously. Don't listen to morons. No other city will love you like we do. You belong here. Stay.
This is for all of the Manny enablers and butt-kissers; what did the following MLB players accomplish in 2007 that #24 did not?
Holliday, Beltran, Soriano, Carlos Lee, Pat Burrell, Ordonez, Hunter, Corey Hart, Granderson, Sizemore, Jose Guillen, Swisher, Jason Bay, Eric Brynes, and even Matt Stairs... THEY ALL HIT MORE HOME RUNS THAN RAMIREZ IN 2007 !! All for less than $18 million per season, too! This Clown played 133 Games and also finished 49TH, YES 49th, among MLB Outfielders in 2007 in slugging % ! And this guy is worth $20 million per?! Folks, how many World Championships has Pedro won with NY [ zero}, Damon with the Bombers[ zero}, etc. Theo is no fool and Manny was stupid enough to piss off John Henry, who used to be one of his biggest apologist. Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out...
Yup, that Manny Ramirez sure is a bum. He entered today's game batting .298 with 19 home runs, 20 doubles, 63 runs scored, 63 RBI, .398 on base percentage, .524 slugging percentage, and a .922 OPS. So far, in three at-bats, Manny has doubled twice, scored twice, and drive in a run.
Before Manny, Sox had not won a World Series since the Irish Potato Famine. With Manny, Sox have won the Series twice.
Now, like Willie Mays, Bill Russell, Dee "Face Down" Brown, Jim Rice, and Mo Vaughn, White New England wants the Non-White star gone and a White replacement, Matt Holliday or Mark Teixeira, to take his place.
Typical White New England. Sinn Fein will be proud.
Ray J.
Obviously, you have difficulty reading, so I'll try to spell this out for you nice and slow with with as much monosyllabic language as possible. Most of us here have been very critical of Manny. We are true Red Sox, and baseball fans, and have no problem calling out our own. perhaps you missed the dozens of critical e-mails, which completely outnumber the sycophants who mindlessly support Manny being Manny. For the record, Red Sox fans are usually the most knowledgeable and honest fans in the league. You, on the other hand, are obviously a mind numbed Yankees fan, unable to see the truth. How 'bout your roid infested club? What do you have to say about them? In short, "Dude, get a life!" Also, you might want to invest in an Evalyn Woods course. That is, if you made it all the way through this "book," (as you probably viewed my short e-mail.
Red Sox fans are the best. We know and love good baseball. And we're not ashamed to admit that we respect class living legends such as Jeter, even though he is a Yankee. The difference between us and a guy like Ray J. is............
Well, you name it.
I agreed with Manny.. that Red Sox should pick up his option for two years 40 millions because he done good things to red sox winning two world series. I expected Red Sox to take care of Manny. Let him focus on playing baseball more if red sox already pick up his options He done a lot favors for Red Sox. if Red Sox trade Manny other teams I will call Red Sox Cheapsake team in History and selfish organization
Let's compare Manny to Pedro: Pedro Martinez is a future Hall-of-Famer, and a clubhouse pain in the ass. Front office could have sucked it up, and given him a 4 year deal based on what he did for us previously, and we'd still be eating that contract. These guys have GOT to realize that when they're over 35, and their career is in decline, they need to be BETTER clubhouse guys. This is Manny's last year in Boston, he'll go somewhere else determined to show up Boston management with some great numbers, but it won't happen. If Manny wants a letter from management at the end of the season saying 'Hey, thank you for everything. You're going to become a free agent. We're not going to pick up your option in '09', then there's no problem. I think management already has it typed up.
manny been manny so WHAT! YOU CANT TRADE THE BEST RIGHT HANDER HITTER IN THE GAME ..IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON WHEN YOU LOOKING FOr PLAYOFF SPOT ..THATS SUICIDAL!!...we`re all tired with the b.s ,,BUT REMEMBER LAST POSTSEASON AGAINST THE ANAHEIM ANGELS (K-ROD)...ANY COMMENTS NOW....LOL
"Bad attitude, he needs to go today, the sooner the better."
I totally agree!
Manny only produces when the situation suits Manny. He's a diva, his teammates hate working with him, his fans are tired of his antics -- no love loss. Cut him loose, let him go his way and fall flat on his face with another company. He's not worth 100 million -- he's a liability lately, not an asset.
I think that when they gave Papi a big extension in 2005, Manny felt slighted, and with his numbers, I can agree. John Henry isn't perfect either, remember 2005 and Theo leaving the team? However, Manny blew it, with his scoreboard antics last year, and his high five double play, the fight with Youk & the Team Secretary, and his Three Stooges falling down rendition in Anaheim. His numbers have been great, but while Ellsbury isn't hitting like Manny, he kicks butt on the basepaths (where Manny didn't), and he makes the plays that Manny hasn't in left field. Maybe Manny thinks he's feeling the heat with J.D. Drew hitting like Manny, and Ellsbury with everything else. Your service to the Red Sox was memorable Manny...but I think you need a change of scenery. Boston doesn't tolerate high priced players...who talk more then they walk!
Just manny being manny...
this happens every year, and everyone always gets so worked up about it
once the trade deadline goes by everything will be fine and manny will go back to being manny some more
Time for the Manny apologists to wake up and smell the coffee. This guy's act has finally gotten old. If he thinks he will get 20 million per year on the open market he's dumber than he sounds.
This guy is 36 years old going on 12. There are little leaguers that are more mature than this tool.
Manny thinks he is bigger than the game. He is not. Not even close. Do you really think the Yankees would want this headache ? They could have claimed him a few years ago when the Red Sox put him on waivers and they didn't. They are too smart for that.
Get rid of this cancer and use his money to sign Matt Holliday who is more productive and nearly 10 years younger.
This is it for Manny, folks. It's the last hurrah.
Good riddence.
You Red Sox fans that are bashing Manny are dumb as hell...Boston hasn't had a player as clutch as him since the Babe himself. Simple math: Boston - Manny = Yankee championships...
WELCOME TO THE DODGERS MANNY.
BY THE WAY, THIS GOES TO ALL YOU RED SOX FANS,
YOU GUYS NEED TO REMEMBER THAT IF IT WASN'T FOR MANNY YOU GUYS WOULD OF NEVER WON ANY OF THE PAST WORLD SERIES. SO YOU GUYS JUST NEED TO SHUT UP AND THANK MANNY.
DODGERS RULE!
