Manny's single gives Sox 2-1 lead

Posted by Baxter Holmes, Globe Correspondent July 28, 2008 08:17 PM

It seems like the more controversy that surrounds Manny Ramirez, the better he plays.

Or at least lately.

Ramirez hit a single up the middle with no outs and runners on second and third, scoring both, to give the Sox a 2-1 lead over the Angels in the fourth inning.

Ramirez scored Kevin Youkilis (single) and David Ortiz (double) to give the leftfielder his 66th and 67th RBIs of the season. He moved past Sammy Sosa last night in the Sox' 9-2 win over the Yankees for second place on the all-time RBI list and now, with 1,672, he trails Cal Ripken Jr.'s 1,695 RBIs. Ramirez had two doubles in that game, the third time this year he has done so.

    Um, "twenty-third".
Manny is in second place relative to Cal Ripken Jr, who is in 22nd place.

Nitpicking aside, thanks for blogging during the games!

  1. Now - it looks as if Sox Management should just swallow their pride and pick up the options!!!!!!!!!! JD Drew or Matt Holliday doesn't scare the Yankees!
