More from Ortiz
PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- After his six batting practice sessions, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz spoke to reporters and here is some of the info:
- Ortiz is also wearing a brace on his left wrist, but in similar fashion to Detroit Pistons guard Richard "Rip" Hamilton, who wears his protective face mask during the playoffs even though he doesn't need it, Ortiz said it's just a precaution.
"It’s something I started using when I started swinging since. I don’t need it anymore but just in case, I wear it," Ortiz said.
- Ortiz is expected to see four or five at-bats tonight and Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson said Ortiz is scheduled to play the whole game.
Asked whether he expects Ortiz to see good pitches tonight, Johnson said, "I think they'll pitch normal, absolutely. You've got (Toledo Mud Hens manager Larry Parish) on the other side, who's one of the best people...probably my best friend in the league and he's a long-time major league guy.
"They know what we're here for. They're going to go after him and make sure he gets his work in."
Here are some other Ortiz quotes from his media session:
Q: Are you tired of watching the Red Sox without you there?
Ortiz: Oh yeah. I’m not used to it. When you’re out for that long, it makes you a little crazy. I’m feeling good. I’ve got no pain. Everything is going well. I’ll play this game and see if I can go back and help the club.
Q: How anxious are you to get back?
Ortiz: Well, I’ve been out six weeks so it’s not easy, man. I’m not used to it. I’m used to playing and watching the games from the bench. Actually, I watch them from the bench, but, you know, playing.
It doesn’t feel right so I’m going to be smart about it. That’s why I want to play all the games that way when I go back up there, I go back to help and not to change things around.
