Ortiz on soft toss

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff July 2, 2008 05:50 PM

David Ortiz, who spent an interview mostly somberly staring straight ahead into his locker this afternoon, also let reporters in on his first attempt at soft toss yesterday. Apparently it wasn't all that pretty.

"I hit soft toss yesterday for the first time," Ortiz said. "I looked all [messed] up in soft toss yesterday. I never thought i was going to have such a hard time hitting soft toss. But at the end I took like 25 swings, 25 soft toss. At the end I started catching up."

He'll do the same today, and even hopes that he might be hitting on the field by the time the team returns to Boston.
