Papi's postgame comments

PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Red Sox slugger David Ortiz spoke after Thursday night's Triple A-Pawtucket-Toledo game, his first live action since May 31 when he injured his left wrist.

The Paw Sox won 15-6. The 15 runs is a season-high and Ortiz finished 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.

Here are a few of his comments:

On being challenged by the pitchers:

"Hey, let's not talk about it because they might not want to pitch to me tomorrow (laughs). No, but they know that I haven't played in a while, so why not."

On if he feels any pressure being in Triple A because of the expectations:

"Not really. I'm used to playing at Fenway. You can get no more pressure than that so this is pretty fun and relaxed. I mean, if I strike out, it will be like, 'Okay, I haven't played in a while.'" (laughs)

On his swings through the game, which were, by and large, very powerful, all-or-nothing swings:

“I’ve been swinging the way I normally do that way if anything comes out, I can feel it and stay away from playing until I get to be fine but everything came out pretty good."

On working on his timing, which he said was one of his priorities coming into the game:

“I saw pitches. I chased a few high fastballs, but other than that, I was taking those bad pitches. That’s how you work on your timing.”

On his home run:

"That's my game. To be able to swing like that when I have an injury before that I can't even hold on to my bat, it's a good feeling."

On the fans:

"Unbelievable. It feels like at Fenway."

  1. This paper is owned by the New York Times and it shows.
Amalie writes the the Boston crowd would have treated the Yankees the same way and I know that's not true. Sure they would have boo'd the Yankees before and after the game, but there is no way in hell that the Boston fans would have boo'd the yankees during the game as the Yankee fans did. Amalie, I've been watching these games long before you were born, and the Yankee fans have always outdone Boston on rudeness. Not sure what your connection is with New York, but I can feel it.
This years all star game was a classic example of how rude yankee fans are. They have no respect for the game, Red Sox fans do. Sorry Amalie.
