Progress reports

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff July 9, 2008 12:33 PM

The Globe's Amalie Benjamin joins NESN's Heidi Watney before Wednesday's matinée to chat about the progress of David Ortiz, Bartolo Colon, and Clay Buchholz.

A quick breakdown of their chat:

  • Ortiz: The Red Sox hope to get him back in the cage Friday and crank up the intensity for a potential rehab stint after the All-Star game.

  • Colon: After experiencing some discomfort, the Red Sox have backed off on Colon's pitching program to ensure he doesn't re-aggravate his oblique injury. He will throw again on Friday, but will take the All-Star break off.

  • Buchholz: After a stint in the minor leagues to work on his arm slot (with an eye on helping his fastball command), Buchholz will rejoin the team in time to start Friday's game.
