Report: Yankees acquire Pudge Rodriguez

Posted by Steve Silva, Boston.com Staff July 30, 2008 04:35 PM

According to a report by Buster Olney on ESPN.com, the Yankees have acquired Tigers catcher Pudge Rodriguez.

Olney writes that the Tigers will get righthanded reliever Kyle Farnsworth, who played with the Tigers previously in 2005, in return for Rodriguez.

Yankees catcher Jorge Posada underwent arthroscopic surgery Wednesday on his injured right shoulder in New York. The Yankees decided Monday that Posada would have the surgery after he unsuccessfully tried to come back from the disabled list.

  1. Awesome. The Yankees trade some bums and get Pudge Rodriguez while we can't unload a future hall of famer even while eating 80% of his remaining salary. At least we have the Patriots in a few weeks.

  1. How do the Yankees keep tricking these bad teams into making horrible deals to help them? Maybe George really is Darth Vader after all!

  1. Any minute now, Sox fans will regain consciousness and search for a silver lining. Well, we still have the Pats. The Yankees are going for broke this season as they close the doors on the Stadium. They're still in the Washburn market, and if that happens, they may win the division by six plus games if the Sox stand pat. I admire Theo's patience, but the Manny issue is officially a distraction. He's acting not like "Manny," but like an idiot, and it looks to me as though his teammates have taken notice. With his body type, the future is doubtful, despite his prodigious talent. Trade Manny, Theo. Trade Manny.

  1. Type your comment here...Here is the score. Cashman 3 and Theo -1. The sox have done nothing to adress their issues with the bottom of the order and the bullpen. Also, the Manny issue is just as much Theo's fault as it is Manny's. Can Theo honestly say he did not think manny and his contract would not be an issue this year. Theo is below zero because he let this manny situation come about and a good GM would have been able to head this off before it became and issue. Cashman, I hate the Yankees by the way and love the sox, has out GM'ed Theo. He filled all of his holes and traded only one major league ready player for three quality players.
