Sox go down

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff July 1, 2008 10:01 PM

That's it for tonight.

The Rays are now assured of winning this series over the Sox, with the sweep on the line tomorrow. It also means that the Rays will finish the series in first place in the AL East, as the Sox head to New York for Thursday's game.

Despite Alex Cora's risky -- very close play at second base -- double down the left field line, it ended at 3-1. Grant Balfour struck out the other three batters in the inning, all swinging.
