Sox have no interest in Tejada

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff July 29, 2008 12:36 AM

A week ago the Red Sox shot down rumors of a possible deal for White Sox backup shortstop Juan Uribe.

Now, a few days later there's a Houston Chronicle report of Boston having interest in Miguel Tejada, which has also been completely dismissed.

According to team and league sources the answer again is "not interested." The Red Sox have no intention of taking on any of Tejada's personal baggage (Mitchell Report and feds investigation).

The Sox are still trying to acquire a relief pitcher and if they had any interest in an Astro in would be for 41-year-old righty reliever Doug Brocail, who has held righties to a .189 average.

  1. Forty-one year old Doug Brocail? Yep, just what the team needs, another aging pitcher.

Look for the Sox to stand pat, do nothing this trade deadline. Why make trades and pick up proven big-leaguers when they can bring guys up from Pawtucket, as has been their style this season? Meanwhile, the hated Yankees are wheeling and dealing, sensing they have a real shot at knocking off the snoozing Sox this season. They just might!

  1. Agreed. Besides the Yankees upgrading, their best ally is Francona. He is managing the pitchers as if the Sox have a high powered offense. They don't! When teams get ahead by 4 runs, the game is over for the Sox. Yet Francona continues to keep his pitchers in far too long - just like last night - which results in a loss. Fact is Varitek and Ellsbury are automatic outs these days. Manny's numbers are not in the top ten in any category (except hitting into double plays), Drew is erratic offensively, and Lugo, Crisp, Pedroia, and Lowrie would be lucky to hit 20 homers collectively. Moreover, Okajima had looked human, and DelCarmen, Hansen, and Lopez are unreliable mid relievers.

  1. Trade Ellsbury, Crisp and Lugo as none of them can hit.

  1. The Sox need to make at least one trade to show the players they are serious this year at winning the championship again. The times they sit tight and do nothing aret he years they just fade away. Even last year with the terrible trade (Gagne) that was done, the sox pulled together and won. In 06, ( no trades) the Sox seemingly packed it in and Fenway was an Ugly place in August and September.
