Sox trail, 8-2, headed into bottom of 8th

Posted by Michael Vega, Globe Staff July 30, 2008 09:34 PM

The Sox got out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh when Justin Masterson entered the game in relief of Javier Lopez (1/3 inning, 2 hits, 1 walk) and induced Vlad Guerrero to ground into a 5-4-3 double play.

David Ortiz led off the inning by hitting a towering double off the wall. Manny Ramirez, in search of some ``mental peace,'' flied out to center for the first out of the inning. After Mike Lowell struck out looking, J.D. Drew flied out to center to end the inning.

Headed into the ninth, nothing's changed. The Sox still trail, 8-2.
