A few things....

BALTIMORE - One of the interesting names that appeared on today's waiver wire was Colorado reliever Manny Corpas.

Before you think that the 25-year-old righthander would be a nice fit for the Red Sox, consider that several teams with worse records than Boston would put in a claim for him. Corpas signed a four-year, $8.025 million extension with the Rockies in February. He's gone in and out of the closer role. Mostly a set-up guy, but an excellent fit for someone. Colorado is putting him out there probably to see what his worth is.

Boston would have interest, just hard to believe he'd get to them.

Dustin Pedroia doubled in the fifth inning and scored on Kevin Youklis' homer. It was Pedroia's 40th double. It was the sixth time a Sox second baseman had 40 or more doubles in a season. The last one was Tampa Bay Yankees manager Jody Reed with 42 doubles in 1991. Pedroia has also scored 94 runs, the fifth most ever by a Sox second baseman...

Veteran corner outfielder Jason Lane, signed by the Sox to a Triple-A contract, gives the team another significant September call-up.

Looks like Julio Lugo will return by Sept. 1 given his progress from a quad injury...

The 48,515 on hand at Camden is the largest crowd here this year...

Daisuke Matsuzaka threw 105 pitches over five innings. Ughh. He walked five, struck out six and is out of the game. With a 6-2 lead, likely to win his 15th unless Sox bullpen implodes....
