A little bit of Lugo

Posted by Barbara Matson, Globe Staff August 12, 2008 05:27 PM

Terry Francona today reported on Julio Lugo, out since July 12 with a strained left quadriceps.

"He's out today taking ground balls for the first time. He's starting to move around a little bit. Today's really his first day of baseball activities on the field. Now he's not going in the hole and throwing people out but he's starting to get back on the field, which is good. He's worked hard. He had a good week with [physical therapist] Scottie Waugh while we were gone, really productive.''

As for David Ortiz, Francona said Papi's left wrist was "good.'' Ortiz sat out Monday's game in Chicago with "tenderness.''

"You know there's going to be days when we have to sit him,'' Francona said. "There's going to be days where it probably feels better than others, that's just the way it is. His presence in the lineup is so important that we'll take what he gives us. I think he's OK.''

  1. I loaded up this page and saw this entry just as Lowrie hit a 2 RBI double.

Surely there's something we can do to keep Lugo out? :P
