A return to Fenway
Thirty years ago, Dave McGillivray ran around the outfield at Fenway. Tonight, he's doing the same thing for the same reason -- to raise money for the Jimmy Fund.
In 1978, McGillivray, 23, ran from Medford, Ore. to Medford, Mass., finishing the final leg with a lap around the ballpark. It took him 80 days to cover the 3,542 miles. Now 53, McGillivray will run 54 miles to commemorate his upcoming (Aug. 22) birthday and to raise money for the Jimmy Fund, which is having its annual telethon today and tomorrow.
McGillivray, the race director of the Boston Marathon, will run from Copley Square to Hopkinton and back. He started at 4 a.m. today and will be honored at a pregame ceremony before tonight's 7:05 p.m. start.
For the trek, McGillivray hopes to raise $34,520 -- $10 for every mile of his 1978 cross-country run. You help by clicking here. A reminder that all proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund.
