Posted by Nancy Marrapese-Burrell, Globe Staff August 1, 2008 07:29 PM

Red Sox newcomer Jason Bay was greeted by a standing ovation from the Fenway Park faithful and gave a wave and slight tip of the batting helmet as the stepped to the plate for his first at-bat in a Red Sox uniform in the bottom of the second inning. He wound up walking on five pitches from Oakland starting pitcher Justin Duchscherer. Bay advanced to third on J.D. Drew's double. He scored Boston's first run of the night on Jed Lowrie's sacrifice fly.
