Beckett has impressive third

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 5, 2008 09:11 PM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Josh Beckett struck out the side in the third inning.

It was one of those dominating innings that he had on many occasions last season, but have been few and far between this year.

The Sox scored the go-ahead run in the fourth on Jason Bay's gap double to left-center off Brian Bannister, scoring Mike Lowell, who had been hit by a pitch. Lowell appeared to be running better after Monday's cortisone shot.

It's 2-1 Sox.
