  1. Seems like they will go to any length to avoid putting Bay in the cleanup spot.

  1. Kietly was released I believe

  1. Bobby Kielty was let go a couple weeks ago i believe. He re-signed becuase he thought Coco was going to be traded and he was going to be recalled as the team's fourth outfielder. When Coco wasn't traded he was stuck in the minors and I'm pretty sure the Red Sox granted his wish to be released a few weeks back. Ellsbury is still young and just has to find his groove again.

  1. Francona keeps saying that he wants to get Ellsbury back to the leadoff position. Hard to do that sitting on the pine!!

  1. Kielty was given his release from the Red Sox last month. Ellsbury's not going anywhere. He'll come around eventually. Does everyone who was so anxious to get rid of Coco feel differently now?

  1. I believe that Bobby Kielty was granted his release from Pawtucket back in the second week of July.

I kinda like it...it shows that Tito isn't as stiff as I thought about shuffling a few players around in the order...also it's part necessity since Lowell is hurting, Ellsbury forgot what end of the bat to hit with, Coco lost Tito's confidence a long time ago batting "up" in the order as well as Lugo being injured.. Youks needs to be in the cleanup spot!...leave Papi right where he's comfortable in the # 3 spot...he'll be fine!

  1. i don't think Kielty is with the club anymore....

  1. Ship out Lugo, really don;t need him. Ellsburry is to valuable to send down dump crisp too. you could get a middle reliever for the combo and be better off.

  1. Looks like he wants to keep a left/right line up. I would keep Pedroia at 1. then go 2.Crisp 3.Ortiz 4.Youk 5.Bay 6.Drew 7.Lowrie 8.Casey 9.Varitek but hey what do I know. 3 swith hitters in a row. How often does that happen?

  1. This lineup is stupid. Youk hates batting cleanup. If the Sox want a good OBP guy leading off, why not Lowrie? Or bat Pedroia leadoff Drew 2nd, Bay 3rd and Papi 4th.

  1. The Sox really have four fine outfielders now. Quite a defensive OF. Three of them can play center field and Ellsbury can play all three spots. Bay is faster than advertised and he is smart.

  1. Another brilliant move Terry...Drew has his worst OPS in the the leadoff spot and he's batted in every position on his career,
    Petey
    Youk
    Drew
    Papi
    Bay
    Casey
    Lowrie
    Coco

  1. Am I the only person who feels that Youkilis is the blatantly obvious choice for the three spot on this club????

The best, all-around hitter on the team should hit third, and Youkilis is top ten in all three major batting categories. Ortiz can't even compare at this point.

Youkilis has way too much power for the two hole...that was a farce...and he hits for too high an average for the cleanup spot.

The order should be Pedroia (.398 in his last 40 games) followed by Lowrie at two,
Youkilis three, Ortiz four, Bay five, Drew six and Lowell at seven.

R-L-R all the way down the order. Youkilis would absolutely carry this club out of the three hole...especially at Fenway.

  1. This is a good line-up since Lowell is hurt. I'd prefer Drew as clean-up and the rest as Pedie, youk, pap, drew, bay, casey, lowrie, capt. crisp. Sorry but coco is an easy out. He swings at the 1st pictch regardless over 90% of his AB's.

  1. Good line-up; Pedroia belongs in the 2 hole, Ortiz in the 3, Bay and Youk where they can drive in runs. Looks like a no-brainer to me!

  1. Not to sound like a stathead, but on-base percentage is most relevant statistic when discussing leadoff hitters, not batting average.

  1. Coco has a lifetime average of .317 against the Meche, the only reason he is playing. Francona goes with that number, more often than not. Crisp has 2 doubles and a jack against Meche. Ells will play tomorrow.

  1. If you are going to bring anyone up, it should be Chris Carter or Jeff Bailey. Each are batting .300 with 24 home runs.

  1. pedro - drew - youk - papi - lowell - bay - lowrie - tek - ells , would be my line-up going forward - assuming lowell is ok

  1. Maybe you all should shut up for once, and let the Man(ager) be the Man(ager). After all, he's won two World Series titles while you were choking down nachos on your couch. Kudos to Tito and Theo, they've both got stones bigger than my skull. It just goes to show how many people shoot (their mouths off) first and ask questions later.

  1. Except for the lightweight (singles) hitters, everyone is batting better than Ortiz. Why not move him down in the lineup until (if) he improves? Are the Sox afraid to hurt his feelings?

Posted by Al August 4, 08 06:50 PM
  1. Well said Jeff how is Northhampton lately been a long time? I know Terry is playing with the lineups but it does seem like a good idea to have Youk 3 Papi 4th and Bay to protect him at 5 thats a damn good 3,4,5 spot. Anyways Solid start for Bay over the weekend and I hope papi isnt affected by Manny leaving. GO TITLE TOWN!

  1. Bobby Kielty is still not a member of the club.

    Posted by jpnoonan77 August 4, 08 07:28 PM
  1. Why is Ortiz not batting clean up surrounded by Youk, Bay or a healthy Lowell?

Why not Youk third,Ortiz clean up and Bay Fifth?

Ortiz came to the Sox,originally, as a clean up hitter and quitter Manny batting third.

When all this trade craziness has settled down, look for Bay to bat clean up!

    Lugo who???????????

Posted by Steve August 4, 08 07:46 PM
  1. 1. Pedroia
    2. Youk
    3. Drew
    4. Papi
    5. Bay
    6. Casey
    7. Lowrie
    8. Tek
    9. Coco

This is the lineup that makes the most sense.

  1. I am no longer with the club. And lineups are overrated. Barely matters where anyone bats. Just watch and enjoy the game.

  1. DREW 0-4 HMMMMM

    Posted by R August 5, 08 12:26 AM
  1. This is the area where Francona is weak. He will go another bunch of games before he adjusts the batting order to make sense. Youk is good at 3 and JD did well in the 4th spot. At some point maybe Papi needs to spend a little time at 6th.

While we are at it bring up Bowden for a spot start and send Bucholz down to work on his "arm angle".

  1. WTH! Another line-up jamboree? Put ORTIZ batting 4th! Move Drew back to 3rd spot where he performed very well this year. Franconna now has one more spot in the line-up to mess with, he really angers me sometimes.
