Dye's not bad either
Jermaine Dye led off the top of the second with a single to center.
It was Chicago’s only hit of the inning since Dice-K got Jim Thome (swinging), Paul Konerko (fly to center) and Nick Swisher (bouncer to first) to go down quick and easy.
Then, in a sequence SportsCenter edits on a nightly basis, Dye dives into the wall along the right-field line to bring back what would have been a Jed Lowrie homer, instant-replay notwithstanding.
Which brings us to this.
The Chicago Sun-Times went with this headline for a profile on Dye this morning: “When it comes to consistency, always say Dye.”
Yeah, the pun got me too, but the point was that that Dye was hitting.292 hitting with 32 homers, and 83 RBIs coming into the game and hardly anyone noticed because of Carlos “For MVP” Quentin.
The Sun-times has Guillen saying, "JD is the most consistent player I've had in five years here. This guy goes out every day and puts up numbers, low-key, and wins the MVP in the World Series and nobody knows about it. He was in the running for the American League MVP, and nobody knew about it."
So, we here at Extra Bases decided to help get the word out.
P.S. Red 1, White 0 going into the third.
