  1. Adios Manny. Thanks for the memories and good luck with a multi-year deal that'll net you more than15 mill per for more than 3 years. If lucky he'll get 55 for 4 years

  1. Good riddance. Threatening to sit out the remainder of a 20 million dollar contract in the heat of a pennant race because the team won't offer you a new 4-year 100 million dollar contract ? Because you don't want to honor the two-20 million dollar options that helped land you the mega-deal in the first place ? Tank because the team won't give you a vacation in season to rest again? Ridiculous.

Hopefully this will bring a new era of contracts in MLB to be more harsh on people who decide to tank the season. Fat chance of that I think. A player who refuses to play just because he want's time off... who fakes injuries ? And the MLB Union would defend him ? Ridiculous.

As for Manny citing Pedro and Nomar ? Both chose the same "poor me, pay me" route near the end of a contract and look how it turned out. Both bashed the Red Sox in the press openly and both have been married to the DL. Add Mo Vaughn to that list too. Remember what Mo said ? "It's not about the money, it's about the respect." Mo went on the the Angels, who bid the most money, and look what happened. Johnny Damon went the "respect" route too... straight to the Yankees. Damon though had the decency to say the huge pay raise was the reason. Damon was honest about it and played as hard as he could while he was in Boston. Big difference there from what Manny has done don't you think ? Guess playing and succeeding in a spotlight in Boston can really go to your head. Add Manny to a list of people who feel they are better than the team, who feel like they are owed something instead of earning it. To Manny, there is no "team" and no respect for an organization who gave you one of the richest contracts in history and surrounded you with a cast of other great players. You'd think Manny would have had a better shot at his next 100 million dollar contract if he didn't take this selfish route. Maybe he's not smart enough to see that or maybe he knows Major League Baseball is so corrupt contractually that he can just do whatever he wants.

Manny did a lot of great things in Boston, but let's not forget that he forced the hand of trading him now either. Even worse, Manny seemed to relish it with signs in the dugout, loafing, spouting off to the media and flip clubhouse antics. Some thought it was funny that much is clear. I saw a little kid throwing a "me, me, me" temper tantrum. The cold reality is that it took his stellar bat, Hansen, Moss and seven million just to get rid of him. Some future first round Hall of Famer I figure.

Manny will hit the open market, probably land some team to give him 100 million or more and that team will be facing the same issues. The way Manny conducted himself the Red Sox would have had no shot at the post season. Now they do. After years of this "Manny-itis" routine 3/4 of the way through the season... Good riddance.

  1. I said good riddance to NOMAHHH and I say it again to MANNY. Freakin' crybabies. Manny made himself the bad guy by running his mouth. The radio shows? Come on Manny... you made yourself what you are.

In the real world, Manny would've been fired a long long time ago. In the real world (outside of the MLB), bosses, or just people in general, do NOT put up with people like Manny. He's now Torre's headache.

His team mates deserved better than that. Jerk.

  1. You're all morons!!

THANK YOU MANNY!! You have given us two championships and provided clutch hitting! Apparently, people want you to be perfect and act the way WE want you to act ALL the time. He's not a puppet, he's a human being. Sometimes I'm tired when I go to work - look what I'm doing now for example. Not working...

When it matters, Manny has stepped up time and time again. I would rather have Manny than anyone else! Even A-Rod because putting up good numbers in the regular season means jack if you can't step up in the playoffs. The jury is out on Bay but Manny has proved himself over and over! I think the fans on this site are spoiled and don't know what really matters: Performance -- not hearsay diva rumors!

  1. I am a Yankee fan. (I grew up in NYC.) I remembered the game on July 1st, 2004, when the Yankees beat the Sox at an extra inning game. It was a great game. There was one player on the Sox that didn't play, and that was, of course, Nomar. He looked as if he was indifferent-like he didn't want to play. Good for Theo to get rid of Nomar and a loud mouth like Manny!

  1. Its a sad day for Red Sox fans. Manny forced this situation, undoubtedly, but I can't get on board with the Manny bashing just to make myself feel better about the 2008-future Red Sox. I loved Manny and he gave the Sox some amazing years and two World Series' titles.

If i was watching him tonight in Los Angeles, I'd give him a huge standing ovation on his first at bat then enjoy booing him and wishing him no success in the rest of his baseball career.

Manny cheated the fans with the way he handled his departure from Boston. His PR work was downright atrocious. See ya Manny, i'll definitely miss you but we all remember its the Red Sox on the front of the jersey, not the name of back that I root for!

  1. I thought the goal of playing ball is to win. When did personality become more important than proven talent ? If Manny's behavior caused problems, it's the job of management to mange him. I hope the Red Sox haven't done something that will make it less likely that they can win games.

  1. I am a life long Red Sox fan. I am sad to see Manny go. He was very entertaining, kind of providing drama to sports, but man he could hit. But like Pedro, Johnny, Mo, Roger, Nomar, etc... Boston will get over him and go on to be stronger.
Any effective team needs team players with their hearts in it for the right reasons. Despite the money he makes (money is not everything), maybe he needed counseling to address the issues that underly his behavior.
I am a nurse, only a nurse, not doing it for the money... Not complaining, not bad mouthing any of my employers or patients. Manny your fans are your patients. Take care of them and they will take care of you. Wishing Manny the very best and expecting much from the Red Sox...
