Homer tag

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 22, 2008 07:30 PM

TORONTO - Dustin Pedroia homered in the first, but Alex Rios answered with a two-run homer off Paul Byrd in the bottom of the inning. The Jays lead, 2-1.

Byrd uncharacteristically walked the first batter of the game (Joe Inglett), who also stole second base. Rios pounced on Byrd's first pitch.

The home run was Pedroia's 13th, which as WEEI's Dale Arnold said, would lead the Jays. Newly acquired (from the Pittsburgh Pirates) Jose Bautista has 12 homers.
