Jack in the House

NEW YORK --- Tuesday night, it was Tiger Woods. Wednesday night, actor Jack Nicholson was spotted sitting behind the home plate backstop at Yankee Stadium. Evidently, he came out to take in one of the storied rivalries in sports: Red Sox-Yankees.

Funny, though, Nicholson was never spotted up in Boston during the NBA Finals for the renewal of another storied rivalry: Celtics-Lakers.

Sure, he was spotted at his customary courtside seats at The Staples Center, along with the rest of the LA glitterati, but TD Banknorth Garden? Noooo.

``He couldn't handle the truth,'' cracked colleague Dan Shaughnessy, doing his best Col. Jessup impersonation from ``A Few Good Men.''

Yeah, that and The Truth ... Paul Pierce.

Anyway, Jack's presence did little to bring the Yankees any luck as the Sox continued to bash the Bombers with a six-hit, seven-run outburst in the eighth, highlighted by Dustin Pedroia's first career grand slam off reliever David Robertson that made it 11-2.
