Lowell out of lineup

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 4, 2008 05:54 PM

KANSAS CITY - Mike Lowell is out of the lineup tonight after receiving an injection in the morning to alleviate pain in his right hip flexor muscle. Manager Terry Francona said the shot was planned for a couple of days. Francona wasn't sure whether Lowell would be in the lineup Tuesday night.

It's really hot here. Temperature is about 102 right now.

Drew will bat leadoff. Francona said Drew was receptive though it's probably "not his favorite thing." Francona said he was trying to find a way to balance the lineup's left- and righthanded batters and making Drew the leadoff man was the best way to accomplish that.

Dave Aardsma is pitching tonight for Pawtucket in Scranton. Bartolo Colon pitches two innings for Pawtucket tomorrow night and is back on a spring training schedule to build up his arm strength again.
