Lowell to receive shot

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 3, 2008 12:12 PM

Mike Lowell said he's expecting to receive a shot sometime before Monday's series against Kansas City. Lowell, in the lineup today, will likely get Monday off.

Lowell did not know if he was receiving cortisone or some other type of pain-reducing shot to alleviate soreness in his right hip flexor. Lowell also received a cortisone shot before the All-Star break.

  1. I hope Mikey can get a shot that will help relieve that pain when he runs. It was obvious Saturday night, when he got that double, that he is in pain when running, but with his stellar defense that night, also obvious that it only hurts when he runs. From what I hear, there isn't much they can do for him, only try to give him another kind of shot, which will hopefully help him. We need him in the lineup to help us win, and hopefully he will be able to stay off the DL. Funny thing is, nobody even knew about this injury, which he has been fighting for over a month now. He really is ironman, as his song entrance to the game says. Good luck MIkey, and feel better. Your bat is starting to get hot now, and we need it in the lineup.

  1. I expect they will move Yukilis over to third, which is always fine, but why not start Big Papi at first at times when Mike Lowell or other regulars can use a day off and let them DH instead? If Papi really has rehabbed his knee while off for the wrist issue, why not give him a chance to contribute on defense? Sean Casey is fine, and a great guy, but is he really a significant defense upgrade from Ortiz? Let Papi make his mark!

  1. I hope the shot that Lowell will recieve will ease the pain. And yes they should put Youklis to third and move Papi to first, I mean he's not bad there.
