Lowrie puts Sox on top

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 24, 2008 04:31 PM

TORONTO - Jed Lowrie hit a linedrive shot in the top of the 11th on a 1-1 pitch from Brandon League and delivered it over the right-field fence to break a 5-5 tie. It was Lowrie's second homer, and first left-handed.

It's 6-5 Sox. Manny Delcarmen will be called upon for the save.

  1. Only 16 pitches in 2 innings for Papelbon -- and a day off tomorrow -- and they wouldn't let him pitch a third inning? That is pathetic and disgraceful! Talk about babying a pitcher! They should have at least let him start the inning. Even if Delcarmen hangs on, it was an overly cautious move.

  1. Lugo=Pipp?

Please, no more discussion. This kid has come up with more big hits in three months than Lugo has in two years.

It will be easier to stomach if we just think of Lugo as baseball's highest-paid utility player.
