Mahay, Mahay
KANSAS CITY - Ron Mahay just showed why he was coveted by the Red Sox at the trade deadline - he struck out Jason Varitek with two on and two out in the eighth to escape a jam and maintain a 4-2 lead for the Sox.
Mahay, a former Red Sox replacement player center-fielder, is quite an athlete. Before the game in 100-degree conditions, Mahay ran several times from foul pole to pole. Pretty impressive.

In my mind, the fact that Mahay was able to strike out Craptain Uselesstek should not make the Red Sox drool over his abilities. At this point, any first rate little leaguer could probably do the same! If you realistically analyze the plate failures of Tek, just in the last month, when he has had opportunities to drive in meaningful runs, its hard to deny that he is costing the team wins more than any other player on the Sox, with or without Manny. Go back & check out the stats & opportunities just from the Astros series to the present and you will find it hard to disagree with me.
