Possible pitchers for Tuesday

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff August 10, 2008 03:34 PM

Though the Red Sox have not released their Tuesday starter -- it's listed as TBA right now -- there are options at Triple A.

While it's unlikely that it would be either Charlie Zink or David Pauley, the two starters who have pitched the best for Pawtucket this season, it could be either Michael Bowden or Devern Hansack. Bowden is scheduled for tomorrow, while Hansack is on for Tuesday.

Zink pitched Friday; Pauley took the hill Saturday in the Futures at Fenway event.

  1. Cant believe at what Pedroia is trying to hit, balls in the dirt, killing any possible rally

  1. Dear Ms. Benjamin,

I am working in New York City, where I can't get the game on the radio. Every time I go to Extra Bases, hoping for an update, there is nothing. I thought the game was in a rain delay, although you usually mention those kinds of things, but no, the main Sox page shows the changing score. Where are the updates from the game???

  1. well, i think management made a wrong move by putting masterson in the pen. it should have been bucholz. 2-8 record. it's time to put masterson in the rotation. i understand it is the middle of august but after today the sox will be 4 1/2 out of the rays. it's time to win the best people in the line-up and rotation. it's all or bust. september is crucial and we need every game.!!

  1. Will somebody, ANYBODY, PLEASE send Clay Buchholz back down to AAA? He's KILLING US. He threw a no-hitter, great, but so did Hideo Nomo...and HE didn't do much else. Buchholz needs to go back down and find his game, if he ever had game to begin with. You needed a dozen coats to put on all his hangers today. Ugh.

  1. I don't care who they pitch, but the Buckholz experiment is OVA!!!!!!
What is Francona doing. The guy has had a half-dozen starts since the all-star break to see if he is ready - guess what? - he's not - he has been horrible !!!!!
That is 6 losses the Sox should not have....they are now falling out of the race..... Matsuzaka has 13 wins, Lester has 4, Backett has 10 ( should have 15 ) and Wakefiled has 7 ( should have 10+).....The Sox need to hustle Bartolo back or pitch Pauler or Masterson...somebody.....somebody ELSE!!!!
It's not working Terry....loyalty is great...stupdity is not
You have stood by Varitek and finally have hom batting ninth...too bad he has to bat at all.... Everyone is making excuses for Ortiz...who hasn't hit since Manny left....Hmmmmmmm!!!!..sound familiar
Lugo needs to go..Coco needs to go...... Timlin ( not worth even mentioning )......Delcarmen ( one pitch wonder ).....Lopez ( laughable ).....Okeechokee - they have his number....
This team needs help not stupid experiments that go one forever.......
Players love Terry - because he never gives up on them - too bad they gove up on themselves....... Get CLAY out of the rotation.......
The Red Sox better save all that Manny money, Timlin money, Schlling money AND Varitek money and throw it all at CC Sabathia and/or Sheets. You know the Yankees will...if they get either one and we get neither, it's al over for 2009.
Fans hate a productive JD Drew at $14M per and love a total waste product in Varitek at $12M per.....who's running the show??????

Theo better start thinking about Matt Holliday for next year....... I don't care where he plays........rotate Ellsbury-Bay-Drew -and Holliday - not bad !!!!!!

  1. I really wish that they'd give zink a shot now that Wakefield is on the DL. He's a knuckleballer so you have that same element in your pitching staff, not to mention the fact that Zink has been tearing AAA apart with a 13-4 record and a 2.89 ERA.

  1. Is it just me or does anyone else wonder why they don't turn back to Masterson as a starter? The guy was what, 3-1 in his starts with an ERA in the 3's? He kept us in every game he started which is more than we can say for ol Clay. Stick Clay back in AAA and find some guys to use in the pen (which has actually been pitching much better). Also, yes give Zink a chance! Anything to get Tek out of the lineup at this point. I was in favor of bringing up Zink before Wake got hurt to replace Clay, which would them get Tek out of the lineup TWICE a week. Addition by subtraction.
