Rained out

Posted by Matt Porter, Globe Correspondent August 15, 2008 08:28 PM

With nothing but rain on the way, this game has been canceled.

The game will be made up as the opener of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, September 13th. The start of that game will be 12:35 p.m, with the second beginning at 7:05 p.m.

Tickets to tonight's game will be honored during the first game of the September 13th doubleheader, according to the Sox PR staff.

  1. Did they give a reason for waiting until 9/13 for the makeup instead of doing it tomorrow?

  1. They could have called this game at 5 P.M. Hope they sold enough hot dogs and beers. Thanks for wasting my time. Cheap jerks.

  1. I sat there in the rain for an hour and half tonight, waiting for those greedy SOBs to sell enough beer and hot dogs for them to decide they had had enough. We all know why they didn't cancel at 5 PM. They are not fooling anyone.

The worst part? That horrible endless loop of bad organ music they BLAST at you so loud you can't even talk to the person next to you- over and over and over until it feels like your eardrums are going to bleed. Far and away the worst part of a rain delay at Fenway.

How fricken loud does it have to be before someone wakes up and realizes it's WAY WAY WAY too loud?

Trying to talk to the person next to me and we were like "WHAT?" "SORRY, WHAT did you say?" "HUH? I didn't hear what you said." "I said- is there any reason that stupid organ music has to be so loud?" "WHAT?" "Nevermind." "What? I still can't hear you- that stupid music is too loud." (Is it really so hard for someone to make an executive decision, realize there's something very wrong with the volume level, and find the right knob to turn down?)

Miserable, awful night. And there was no reason for it. None.

  1. Jayne, I was wondering the same question but figured that it probably has something to do with the roster. In September both teams will have expanded rosters and more pitchers to use. Doubleheader games with a 25-man roster are always headache to managers and GMs.

  1. Changed my opinion of the Red Sox owners last night - never been to rain canceled game until last night. Absolutely no reason the keep the fans there so long before they canceled it.

Next time it's cloudy I'm going L.A. on the Sox and wait until the second inning to get to my seats. Microscopic sandwiches for $5.50, pizza made with recycled cardboard and Budweiser so watered down it tasted like horse urine lite. And they call Heineken "premium" beer? Which planet?

Either make the food worthwhile, charge believable prices or get new concessions vendors. Bad bad karma.

  1. The organization has been notorious for these cheap tactics...remember the Yanks game they didn't call until after 9, that should have been called at 3 or 4? we are just as much to blame for sticking around
