Red Sox win it in 12 on walk off single
New left fielder Jason Bay, who slammed a triple off the left-field wall in the bottom of the 12th inning, scored his second run of the night on Jed Lowrie's single off lefthander Alan Embree, giving Boston a 2-1 victory over the Oakland A's at Fenway Park.

On base four times, scored both runs, generated the winning run with his triple in the 12th... not bad for a guy who jumped off a plane in mid-afternoon and into a Boston uniform for the first time. I think Bay will be a breath of fresh air, a better-than-average bat, and a vast upgrade in fielding and baserunning. Being from British Columbia, we're proud of Jason and happy for him in his debut!
I loved the fan's sign they showed right after Bay hit the triple: "Manny who?"
Let us face the fact. This team is just not good even with Manny. Now 12 innings to beat A's team with not so good offensive players. Did u look at that line up?
I will be surprised if we make the play offs.
But wait... we can NEVER win without Manny!
Apparently Bay (1 for 3, 2 BB, HBP, excellent fielding, and both runs scored) didn't get the memo.
Good win, guys, and nice work by Wakefield! (Again. Deserved the W.)
Great start Jason!
AWESOME start for Mr. Bay.. Manny would not have made the catch in the 9th and the wall ball would have been a double at best. Therefore, Lowry's grounder would have meant nothing because Manny would have been on 2nd not 3rd base! I am thrilled for Jason Bay. HUSTLE 100% is all I saw tonight!
The Red Sox ditched Manny; now the Dems can ditch Barry!
MANNY MANNY MANNY MANNY MANNY MANNY!!!!!!!!!!
Go Sox !!!
Is Jason Bay an upgrade or a downgrade in left? Let's see, he showed up wanting to play. He made a great sliding catch to choke off an A's rally. And in the 12th he ran hard for a triple rather than standing around to watch the ball. Watcha think?
The "Bay State" has a new "Bay" to help protect and watch the Red Sox back.
We are Red Sox Nation, headquartered in a now revitalized "Bay" State.
WELCOME, Justin.
If you never get another hit during your career as a true"Red Sox" (and not just someone who just happens to play home games in Boston, ) your hustle, hard play, humbleness and heart will help lead our team a long way (and not just in the standings.)

Not to mention that Manny's night consisted, in part, of a single and a GIDP in the ninth with one on and no outs, Dodgers down by one.
I agree with Farny & Since67: the triple would have been a double or even a single because Manny would have stood at the plate, arms up, expecting a homer. And that sliding catch would have been another that wound up underneath Manny, with him flopping like a fish and laughing.
Thanks for the memories, Manny but good riddance.
Who's Justin??!!
Sox won yesterday; Dodgers lost. Score 2-1 in both games. Sox are one up on the Dodgers after the trade.
There isn't any doubt; Manny Ramirez was a very, very good player on the field. That said, when it comes to Jason Bay, it was a pleasure to watch the play of and listen to the words shortly thereafter of a player who seems to genuinely appreciate the opportunity to play major league baseball in general and play for the Boston Red Sox in particular. What a breath of fresh air, considering recent happenings.
Manny reminds me of the old story: "It only takes one rotten apple in the barrel to ruin all the apples." Manny was taking a toll on Francona and the other hustlers on the team. His past two weeks were the straws that broke the camel's back. When you get in that position, any good business manager knows: ya gotta clean house. No one player is as valuable as a whole team, no matter how good he is.
So, with JB, it looks like we did pretty good, considering we would have had to bench Manny and sequester him for the resy of the season for the rest of season without any player in return. JB's numbers should improve in Fenway, also. A comparison of stats at the end of the regular season will make good material for an interesting story. In my opinion management didn't have a choice; this is the only route to the playoffs. Go T-E-A-M!
