Sox cashing in

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 20, 2008 07:45 PM

BALTIMORE - Kevin Cash, who is behind the dish tonight because Terry Francona is making Jason Varitek take a night off, doubled to lead off the second inning and scored when Jacoby Ellsbury's speed forced a fielding mistake.

Ellsbury bunted for a base hit, but pitcher Chris Waters, trying to rush the throw, threw wide of first allowing Cash to score and Ellsbury to advance to second base. Ellsbury, who stole third base, his 41st, scored on David Ortiz's single off the right field wall.

It's 4-0, Sox.

  1. If you issue a four-pitch walk to a guy with a .230 OBP, you simply can't pitch for a playoff contender. Enough already.
