Sox lose

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 8, 2008 10:32 PM

CHICAGO - The Red Sox have bowed to the White Sox, 5-3 here tonight.

MVP candidate Carlos Quentin bopped his 31st homer in the eighth to give closer Bobby Jenks a two-run cushion in the ninth.

This was certainly a key series for the Red Sox who swept the Royals and were trying to stay close or gain ground on the Rays.

  1. The Red Sox swept the Royals? Wow, I must have turned Game 1 of the series off too early. I gave up with 3 outs in the 9th.

  1. I live in New Brunswick, Canada and in the Atlantic time zone (one hour ahead of Eastern) so the games often finish quite late. This year I have found it very easy to go to bed after the fifth inning because I know the outcome will not change! Where is the magic with this year's Red Sox? After the Lester no-hitter can you name three other memorable wins? I am a stat guy by nature and I would love to know if someone can quantify the numbingly predictable nature of this team!

  1. There is no doubt in my mind he will end up with the Yanks as a DH. A-Rod loves him, he'll make big news, and they can play up the Red Sox revenge thing for years.

  1. I guess my question would be why a man who couldn't stand the lifestlye of a ballplayer in Boston would think of New York as more comfortable. Also, I think the Yankees probably have enough DH types.

  1. I hope Schill comes back long enough to drill him in the head. If he loves Red Sox fans sooooo much, why would he say these things. I HATE MANNY!!! and never was so happy to see him leave

  1. "August 29, 2003 - Manny expressed in an ESPN interview that he would like to play for the New York Yankees."

    Wikipedia

He's from Washington Heights, which is basically in the shadows of Yankee Stadium, so it would seem reasonable that he'd want to play in his own backyard.

  1. I have no doubt Manny will end in the Bronx, that was his goal from the beginning if you go back the last few years and listen to his comments. I said it the day he sat out against the Yankees, I truly believe he was tampered with via Boras. The Yankees will desperately need a DH next year unless they re-sign one of their aging position players. Manny and A-Rod have become inseperable and not that long ago if you recall A-Rod made a comment that if Manny did not have those options and became a free agent his contract would rival A-Rods. Also let's not forget shortly after Manny quit on the Sox and went to LA Boras made the comment that an Arod - Manny punch would outshine the ortiz -manny combo. ( which I doubt.) That said let the Yankees have him, look at all the good it did them playing games to get Damon. You would think the Yankees have learned by now you can keep scoring more runs then anyone lese int he league and you still can't win the WS without pitching.
