Sox sweep, 5-2
The Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Oakland A's with a 5-2 victory before a Fenway Park crowd of 37, 317.
Jonathan Papelbon came into the game in the ninth inning to record his team-leading 31st save of the season, striking out Daric Barton to end the game. It made a winner of starter Daisuke Matsuzaka, who improved his record to 12-2 on the season.
The Red Sox will head to Kansas City where they will open a three-game set against the Royals Monday night.

Good start for Jason Bay. As a long-time Pirate fan I promise you are going to love this guy. He is a quiet leader in the clubhouse. He plays much better defense than the guy who got traded. And despite looking like Opie Taylor he has surprising power -- strength might be a better word. There will not be many line drive home runs but lots of towering fly balls that just keep carrying. It is great to see him get a chance to win.
For the vast majority of each season, doesn't it go without saying that a team's closer will be the team-leader in saves?
The trade of Rameriez for Bay doesn't seem so bad NOW, does it???
Good job this weekend, boys!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Red Sox Forever!!!
Who is this Michael Vega?
He can't add 3 and 1 (he gets 3 as a result), he can't count outs, now he is telling us that the team closer is a team saves leader - in the end of the season...
Is everybody else on vacation?
