Still no plans to cut Manny's hair

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 4, 2008 10:28 PM

KANSAS CITY - L'Montro, Manny Ramirez' barber, just checked in from LA.

Still no plans to cut Manny's hair. Joe Torre has asked Manny if he would cut it, but so far "Manny's just concentrating on winning" according to L'Montro. L'Montro said he's received several inquiries as to when and where it might happen, but he said Ramirez has not yet given him the go-ahead.

  1. But... he just wants to be treated like everyone else!!

Just like he did in Boston.

  1. Manny never does what he doesn't want to do and clearly, he likes his hair the way it is and I doubt that Joe or anyone else is going to convince him to cut it unless the man himself decides he wants short hair... Manny being Manny just means, Manny does what "Manny" wants, rules don't mean a thing to him. And yes, I was a Manny fan big time, but now I just feel like a fool for not seeing him for what he has proven himself to be... A very selfish, self serving athlete... For weeks he let the the Red Sox down, claiming he had knee problem and as soon as he started with the Dodgers,... a miracle .... his knees were fine and he actually can run when HE wants...

  1. Interesting the comments that get blogged - and the ones that don't.

Despite the fact the Dodgers are marketing 99 dreads merchandise (in various colors, and sprouting from plastic batting helmets) and have informed Manny the hair needs to stay for awhile so they can clean up on the campaign (scheduled for kick off after the LA road trip) , the bashers will make this too, all about Ramirez' insubordination.

    laugh!

  1. He should turn into some sort of a charity function. Donate X, and you get to cut a portion of his hair. That would be the smartest approach for him at the moment.

  1. Manny's gone, so let's move on. We have bigger fish to fry like fighting the Yankees off and trying to gain ground on the Rays. We have Jason Bay in left field now and the guy looks like he could be a big help to us. Manny is the Dodgers problem now, and knowing the Dodgers they will let Manny do what he wants to since they are so desperate for a pennant. If Joe Torre doesn't watch it, though, he may lose the clubhouse. Jeff Kent and Juan Pierre are already mad and it wouldn't take much to set off the kind of spark that made that team the most dysfunctional in baseball last year.

  1. Who cares if he cuts his hair or not! Really? I mean he's a professional baseball player not a freakin movie star. I'm pretty sure that his hair isn't going to win any games for the dodgers and the fact that they're 2.5 games out of first place sitting at .500 tells me that they have a lot more to worry about than what his hair style is. Good luck gettin to the playoffs with all the Manny drama LA!

  1. Manny thinks a hair cut is about 1/4 inch off the dreads! If he did not cut it by now, guess what Joe Torre...He wont! Its just Manny being Manny.

  1. It is culturally disrespectful to ask him to cut his hair and I wish Manny would say it

  1. Manny is a spoiled pampered rich athlete - as long as he hits and performs like a Hall of Famer no one is going to make Manny do anything he doesn't want to do - rules don't apply at his level - The Red Sox found that out and so will the Dodgers eventually -- it's too bad Manny doesn't realize the game of baseball made him what is he is today -- extremely wealthy

  1. "Manny's just concentrating on winning"

    Typo: L'Montro misspelled "whining."

  1. Firefligh spewed, "Despite the fact the Dodgers are marketing 99 dreads merchandise (in various colors, and sprouting from plastic batting helmets) and have informed Manny the hair needs to stay for awhile so they can clean up on the campaign (scheduled for kick off after the LA road trip) , the bashers will make this too, all about Ramirez' insubordination.

So, what exactly is your point?

  1. you know what i think i say we just drop this whole manny ramirez thing gettin traded to the dodgers and him getting his hair cut. hes on a new team now and its a potential enemy of the red sox so lets just move on anyways weve got good ol' jason bay who in my opinion is a better player overall because every hit he gets he runs everything out unlike Manny in which hed just stand at home plate and then hed be like o darn ive gotta run and then run after the balls already been thrown to 1st and also defensively Bay has definitely a better arm and is a better fielder take for when he dives for a ball he dosent look like he tripped and land on top of the ball so i say now that we have bay its time to start over fresh with a new outfielder and lets just drop the Manny Ramirez era once and for all and lets begin the Jason Bay era
