  1. What responaibility does Theo take for the "difficult" environment? If my boss had been trying to get rid of me for years, I too might be a bit difficult to work with.

  1. Its pretty obvious that Manny has a Drug or Alcohol, problem. Shame on the Sox for booting him !

  1. ask yourself why they've been trying to get rid of him though....it was justified. if you took numerous poops on your boss' shoes, they'd kick you out of your dimly lit cubicle as well, Jason.
sox fan's, please don't take the ignorant route and turn this clown into a Sox Nation martyr, he was never anything but an A-rod or Bonds in a Sox uniform, and I was never comfortable with the whole "manny being manny" b.s....as long as the numbers were good.
this was good business, plain and simple.

  1. Theo did the right thing. it should have been done in the past so we didn't have to go through this every year. Manny is an awesome player, but he plays when he wants to and not 100% all the time. Dissapointed we didn't get pitching help,

  1. Jason, if your boss was paying you $20,000,00.00 a year, you would suck it up.

  1. Epstein is a joke ...... we'll see how many rings they win with Manny gone.

Veterans issue an ultimatum to Management? Mgt. should have told the veterans to start hitting the ball & playing the game .... then a decision could be made as to whether or not the Sox could be feasible w/o Manny.

    What a joke!

  1. Let's get serious here. In the "real" world, if we did any of the things that Manny did at work, we would have been let go long ago. Baseball, or sports, world is totally different.

  1. The people who are calling Theo a joke or a dummy are themselves, in fact, the kind.

Theo had to do what he had to do. Manny, year after year, said HE wanted the trade, not management. It was a ridiculous situation built by a ridiculously immature 36 year old. I in no way paint the management as saints, as I am sure there were things behind the curtain but let's get real, Manny showed his cards and they weren't the winning hand his numbers showed.

Manny, I say thank you for the championships and the good times but I really wish you had handled yourself much better. You had a chance to stay here, finish your career here and be a legend forever. Now the shine is tarnished and all you had to do was be a professional, not a spoiled brat. Thanks,

  1. I think they did the best they could ( the Red Sox Organization, that is ) to not have this season turn into a complete bust. Look at the bright side: We got a younger, better defensive, better base running Left Fielder, who happens to be batting equivalent to what Manny is doing this year. I'm not upset about Manny, I'm nore hurt seeing Brandon Moss go.

  1. Face it, Manny had been clearly dogging it the past week or so, clearly angling to get out of town and out of the last two option years of his contract. He took a month off last year with a 'strained lateral oblique', he quit in 2006...all of this was overlooked when he was 30 years old hitting .325 with 40 homers, ect...but when your 35 and the last two years your numbers are .280-90 and 25 homers, that's any left fielder's numbers, (i.e. Jason Bay's numbers) and Manny is on the downhill side of his career...the Sox have their young pitching in order, have the middle of the diamond in order (expect for Varitek) and they were going to have to deal with the fact that they have to think about replacing Manny and also eventually Ortiz. Manny just made the need to replace him sooner rather than later. Manny and

  1. When a player thinks he's more important than the team; that's the time he causes resentment among the teamates, and is hurting the team more than helping it.

Manny was always on the brink of getting away with kid's stuff in a man's game; this time he's pushed too hard and enuf was enuf. Let's face it, you could tell from Manny's quick temper asking and not getting 16 tickets athe last minute just after the hustler Youk got his tickets for hometown family. THe shoving match with Youk in the dugout had to be about hustle. The team was in "dissarray. You can't win a big league championship if you're not a team. We are better off without him; now, at lkeast, we have a real chance to get on with winning ballgames. Manny's agreat hitter with just too much baggage for the Bosox to avaid. See ya'!

  1. If Manny came out this year and was motivated and showed full potential then perhaps the front office may have listened to him. He seemed to start the year with that attitude but never quite performed up to his potential and certainly not up to what he was being paid. So when a cancer infiltrates Manny’s vulnerable mind in the form of Borass, then Manny does the exact opposite and he becomes a complete idiot. Manny being Manny is way too old. With the money he’s looking for he should be a leader on this team and he showed just the opposite. With all the championship teams we follow name one other in this town that would have put up with this. I would hope that the other players that have Borass as an agent recognize that he pulled this off and took something away from all of them … including Manny. This guy isn’t good for them and isn’t good for the game.

  1. Good thing Theo didn't go into marriage counseling. This season is over now solely to have avoided some difficulty in the months ahead in managing difference-making egos on a championship roster. Now the Sox are a team, like the Blue Jays and Rangers and can move "forward" to a third-place finish.

  1. manny was nothing more than a hitting savant...the sox are better off without him ! bill in north carolina via maine, sox fan since the 50's

  1. Oh no!!!! It's the curse of Manny!!!! How many years will we have to wait now!?!?!

    Posted by "#24" August 2, 08 10:21 PM
  1. SMART MOVE!!!!!!!!!! WE SHOULD NOT JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS. THEO MADE A SMART TEAM FIRST MOVE! MANNY HAS TOO BIG OF AN EGO AND DOSENT ALWAY PUT HIS BEST FOOT FORWARD 100% OF THE TIME! YOU WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH 25 GUYS NOT 1 PLAYER! IT TAKES A TEAM EFFORT TO
WIN THE BIG ONE. SO LETS NOT JUMP TO CONCLUSION. JUST YET!

NO ONE PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Wait, Wait, Wait...

Hang on, all you Theo haters, lemme go back and pull all the post Nomar hate and the Post Pedro Hate that said the team would never win another Championship, and we'll just crosspost it now and save you the time...Kay?

  1. Im betting manny's child game of wanting out of his contract backfires! It has with a lot of ex sox, just ask nomar! No one will pay manny 25 mil for a year for 4 years! Not even the evil empire Yankees!

  1. OK...where's Barry?????

  1. Just because Manny continously asked to be traded, doesn't mean he was totally at fault...ask yourself why? Could it be he was treated badly by Theo, accused of being a faker and a lyar? Who wouldn't want to leave? He got no respect from Management or the press, not unlike other superstars leaving the Sox disgruntled.

  1. Reading these threads saddens me. I used to be proud of Sox fans. How any one could be a baseball fan and watch the last few weeks unfold and be dissappointed or think Boston made a mistake is beyond me. Manny was a great player. We loved having him. But year after year he was a distraction and this year he became a complete joke and was turning the team into one as well.

He was a big part in two rings. But he didnt win those rings alone. I would say Papi, Schilling, Pedro, Beckett, Damon, and many others played a role as well. The team will be fine. We may not win it all again this year, but at least now we have a chance.

  1. I cannot help but believe that Boras was real reason Manny acted the way he did in recent weeks. Did Boras coach him to act weirdly so that the Sox would have no choice but to dump him -- especially dropping the 20 million/year resign clause. Fact: Boras wouldn't have gotten a dime if the Sox had resigned Manny. Fact: Now the sky's the limit, and Boras will reap his 10%.
